Terry, the vehicle pictured is a Halflinger, I don't know if there were multiple contracts let for that vehicle or if it only came from one source, but I do know that there are multiple companies that sell them. Pinzgauer is one manufacturer who I know made the Halflinger When I was sourcing out an Akiv Snow Trac ST4 earlier this year I was also looking at the Studebaker Weasel. Both are small tracked vehilces, neither are street legal, but both share one thing in common with the Haflinger you are looking at. They are military surplus vehilces. In my searches, I found many Haflingers for sales, some here in the US and some foreign. I never bothered to research them fully, and didn't really look into the street legal issue simply because I was not intending to buy one. However, I would suggest you do some google or yahoo searches for "halflinger" "military surplus vehicles" or "pinzgauer" (you might want to double check my spellings to make sure they are correct before you do the searches!!!)

I ended up importing my own ST4 and would not recommend it if you want a street legal version. It took me about 3 months to arrange the importation, it was easy once it got put on the boat, but getting it ready to get to port was a huge PITA.

Sorry the link "NO HABLA ENGLISH" /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, but this is the best site on these since they were made in Austria.
I've always wanted one of these. They are street legal, but they are slow. They top out about 40+mph.

I have no idea if any other factories made these. After they stopped making these, Steyr made the Pinzgauer.

Terry43,
As far as I can tell, you are looking for Forward Control Vehicles.

Terry, you won't find any of those vehicles street legal here in the US.

If you want a small utility vehicle that is street legal, you will have to find an OLD vehicle. The laws as written currently state that the current emmissions, saftey, bumper/impact requirements, etc laws are applied to all newly manufacturered vehicles for them to be street legal. Further, the same laws are applied to foreign vehicles.

I think this basic set of laws applies to all vehicles made after 1969? If not that date, then some date that basically says, if you want to drive it on the road, you won't be finding a new vehicle like any current RTV. I noticed you started another thread that shows a small truck, again, these same laws apply to that truck. Those little Japanese utility trucks, commonly called mini-trucks, are NOT street legal unless they are old. Again, I'm not sure of the year you have to go back to, but you need to look at roughly 30 year old vehicles if you want one to drive on the road. I would stongly suggest you dig up the law prior to starting your search.

SmittyII, that ranks right up there as far as user's first posts with the most information in them! Translated no less! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Welcome to TBN.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm kinda looking for a utility vehicle for hunting and use in rough terrain. The Pinzgauer looks interesting, though the Halflinger would fit my needs better. I suspect that parts, etc. would be hard to find and expensive. However, if someone could adapt one of the US military 2 or 4 cylinder aircooled boxers (used in generators and pumps) then it might be a viable outfit.
