Does anybody own an i1050?

I'm ready to purchase, but looking for pros/cons.

Please advise... Thanks, Thunder25

I have an i1046, the only difference being the engine HP and cutting width. I have only used it twice and like it very much. I traded a two year old CC Z-Force 44.

Lawn mower choice is mostly personal preference and dependant on lawn make up. Mower quality matters, but is arguable between technical specifications, marketing, opinion and the test of time. If you want exercise, get a 20” push mower. If you want to save time and can afford it, hire someone to mow it for you.

I mow a half acre with a lot of hills and inclines. The Z-Force seemed overkill for my situation as it is designed to mow a lot of grass, fast and good. The high blade tip speed allows great mowing at 6-7 mph, but I no sooner got started down a row and it was time to turn around. It also damaged turf on turns if not extra careful. I also had to overdrive one hydro on hills to try to prevent the front caster wheels from dropping out and that would tear up the grass too. If you have 1+ acres of relatively level grass, the lever steer zero turn mowers are worth looking at.

The pros of the i1046 are:
- True zero turn with steering wheel. (Amazing how well it works.)
- The wide track and balance make it the best tractor I have ever used on hills and inclines. (Not necessary to sit off of seat on fender and lean like other tractors I have had.)
- There is no turf damage on turns, (probably do to synchronization of front steering and rear hydros and even weight distribution, front-to-back.)
- Saves time on turns.
- Can see gas level prior to mowing.
- Can be used to pull attachments.

The cons of the i1046 are:
- First year sold. (Skepticism of purchasing anything the first year, but has three year warranty.)
- Some say it is based on the entry level 1000 series. (The quality and design look different to this lay person and I won’t be using it for commercial mowing.)
- Durability & steering mechanism. (Only time will tell and my dealer assures me that his techs have the training and tools to maintain them.)

This is just my non-technical opinion.

Thanks ibjim for such an informative answer!

I have an acre, and currently use a Cub LT1042.

My wife assures me this is adequate, but I differ...

Thanks again, Thunder25

Its a great tractor. We've sold several so far. It should not be a 1000 series machine, but by labling it that way they can also sell it at Home Depot. They limit the box stores to only the 1000-series line, its mostly 2000-series grade tech but with a dumbed own sticker to get it in more stores.

Just bought an i1046 from Home Depot yesterday, being delivered sometime today.. The old Murray blew up and needed a mower quick, only reason I bought from Home Depot is we have a business account and I could charge it. Looking forward to playing with it.. Have almost 8 acres, mow a couple with the rider and the rest with a Ford 3000 and flail mower..

Will report my findings after I've had a chance to put it through it's paces...

Mower arrived in one piece, after dealing with HD, wouldn't have surprised me if it had fell off the truck.

Checked it over to be sure all the fluids were Ok and they didn't leave in any packing material. Jumped on and mowed about an acre.. I like it, that ZTR feature is outstanding, adjustable seat is comfortable for both me (6'1) and my wife (5'2). The hydro sure makes slowing down for the tall stuff easy, this is the first hydro lawn mower I've driven and it sure beats the heck out of stopping to change gears.

Only two negative items I noticed is it's much warmer sitting behind that engine than the little Murray was and holding down the hydro peddle could get a little tiring.. Other than that I'm glad I bought it and so far would do it again.

One thing kinda funny, they delivered it with a John Deere key.. It works but has the JD emblem on it :)

They pretty much all use the same key.

I got keys for my 12 y/o 1864 right off the rack at Sears :)
