Planters Does anyone have 25B John Deere Unit Planters?

How large are they from front to rear, side by side? I'm picking up four, and I need to know if they'll fit in the bed of a shortbed 3/4 ton truck.

Take 'em off the toolbar. (4 nuts/2 u-bolts per unit) I'm sure you could fit 'em in a shortbed pick-em-up that way.

From the pictures I was sent, they're already off the toolbar. There's two 24B and two 25B seeder/planters. Any idea how much they weigh each? I also have to carry my daughter's wheelchair in the back of the truck. I'm hoping everything will fit.

Depends...Do they have fertilizer units? Pesticide boxes? With a full compliment of accessories, probably around 100 to 110 lbs per unit max.

24/25's are simular to the Deere 44 unit planters in size. I hauled 8 row units in the back of a Toyota Tacoma a few years ago. They were stacked like firewood, but they fit. I'm sure you can get 4 row units in a full sized shortbed with room to spare.

Whatcha got there is a seed hopper and a fertilizer box. Looks like a nice set-up. If you don't mind saying, how much did you have to give? Did the seller explain the differences between 24B and 25B units?

I have some original Deere sales literature on their unit planter line-up from the 1960's and 1970's. The 24B/25B is covered in that. I'll look tonight to see if an exact weight is listed, but they're lighter built than a #70/#71 unit planter and those weigh in at under 90 lbs w/o fertilizer box.

One is a hill drop planter and the other is a drill planter. (Can't recall which is which. I can look when I get home tonight)

$100 per row is a decent price by todays standards.

This is going to be interesting to see how these things work! Of course, they'll have to have their worn parts replaced or rebuilt, de-rusted, then painted.
