I nearly got taken out last night as I mowed alongside the road outside my property. The days are getting shorter and I'm starting to think about fitting something that will make it easier to see my tractor in the evening twilight.

I went on eBay and came across these. I know in the video the they are offering blue flashers (is that legal??) but I was thinking more along the lines of a pair of amber flashers, plentyful on eBay.

I believe that here in Michigan Blue flashing lights are reserved for Police emergency vehicles. Will check later on today with my S-I-L who is a police officer.

I went with six amber LEDs . Two front and rear and one on each side. I mounted them in the cab and they do a great job, got them from Strobeguy :

here in the states generally blue is police/volunteer fire (depending on the state) and green is often (not always) for EMT personal vehicles. however as Blagadan's profile says he is in Western Europe, US regulations probably don't apply. I personally would go with amber lights, they are more visible in all conditions.

I'M NOT SAYING I WANT BLUE LIGHTS!!! Gosh, the police would be all over me here too, thats their colour! lol. I dont want to grab THAT kind of attention!!

NO, I just showed the link to an eBay site that is selling flashing strobe LED lights for $20-30. The video clip they have is showing blue strobe lights. They sell amber lights too which IS what I am interested in fitting to the rear of my tractor. I dont have rear lights, just reflectors which are useless. I have lights on the front of the tractor alright but they're no good when something is coming up behind me.

AMBER or YELLOW.... for sure!!!

They look good and bright on the youtube site, I am just wondering are they as good as advertised.

Sorry if i was unclear in the original post guys.

When I built my cab, I installed two of these - one at front, one at rear, top centre of cab:
Grote Industries: Product #77363 - Yellow
They are very bright and really grab your attention when flashing. Snow plows and other public works vehicles use them around here.
I highly recommend them.

Not sure about the exact ones you've posted, but i can recommend the grote lights like herringchoker suggested. Id also recommend Grote Industries: Product #77893 - Yellow, NEW but its probably alot more than you want to spend. It looks like all these products are available in europe as well.

The longevity of these lights is directly related to the quality of the led's and other components. My trailer is all grote led's and i haven't had a burned out light yet and they're over 6 years old. The grote lights are pretty much used on all the highway vehicles i worked on, and they work flawlessly.

What's good about LED lights is that you can drive a bunch of them on the same power as a couple of parking lights. Light 'er up like a Christmas tree!

Well, I went and ordered the LED flasher from eBay..

Fitted it to the back of my WHITE bagger mower and it worked out very well. The unit I bought is designed for fitment to the windscreen of a car, but it suits my needs perfectly with the bracket turned around. It has rubber suction cups that hold it in place on the top of my metal bagger lid.

Makes me more visible when I'm out mowing the verges on the road outside my property.... I've even noticed approaching cars tend to slow down a lot more since I've started using this thing...!!!

RESULT!!!

*****Turn down the volume on your speakers before playing these!!! I had the engine running at 1/2 throttle to charge the battery and it's a bit noisy on the video clip!!!*****

The viewing angle on this light is about 25 degrees from centre line. Meaning the light is most intense from directly behind the light, and 25 degrees on either side the light, the intensity of the light becomes less.

It is incredibly bright though...

A 360 degree flasher would be a more obvious choice I know but I dont like the distraction of everything around me lighting up orange.....
As I only mow parallel to the road and I have working headlights, i went for the directional strobe light to cover the rear of the machine and the headlights cover me from the front..
