Does anyone know how old?

A man that i use to help with his garden, called and said he had something he wanted me to have. He had to quit farming because of illness, he is 67 and his dad lived to be 93 and was a farmer also.

The disc belong to his dad and Paul said his dad had them before he was born, he gave them to me last spring and i felt bad to take the disc, but "felt bad to refuse them" also.

I have used them, they work great and are very strong made, i did put some new bolts in some places, and plan to do more work on them, they will angle more with a little work.

You turn the big wheel to angle the disc. (picture 3 shows that)

No clue how old it is, but that's an oldie but goodie for sure!! No telling how many acres it's disced up in its time.

If you like the way it works, keep it. If not then I'd say fix it up, put some paint on it and ask if "Paul" would like it back as a lawn ornament. I'm always amazed how the older implements have no convenient way to transport too and from the field.

I plan to put new bolts in some of the links and will probably have it painted.

He won't take it back, he gave it to me so it would get used some and not in a field covered up in weeds, I"m planning to share my garden with him, he likes peas and yellow Tomatoes and gave me some old Heirloom seeds that he has had a long time.

Yea on the older equipment they didn't really have a good way to take them to other fields, unless they had a trailer or something.

I won't need to take it to no other fields, but could fix it if i needed to.

I had a guy that had a old set of disc and he needed something so he could transport it, so i took some metal, small wheels and a trailer jack, and fixed it when you turned the jack the wheels would go down.

they look like the fleury-bissell discs that we had when I was growing up. give the wheel a spin to straighten out the cut on the disc so you could travel from field to field although not too quietly if on the road and then spin it back to set your desired amount of cut. they were mainstays around here until wheel discs started to be manufactured.

Back when this was new you didn't need a way to transport it to the field. There were probably no paved roads so you would just put the disc's in line and they would roll without digging in. Most people would use them and store them in the same field. Life was much simpler then no DOT, EPA , IRS

That is a nice set, no keep them, use them to grow a garden and share some crop with the man.

I tried to do a search on "Fleury-Bissell Disc" and couldn't find any pictures or info.

That is a bissel from the late 40's or early 50's. We had (3) of them over the years. My grandad considered them the finest disks made. My dad still uses one on his garden. You are missing the back half however.

Does your dads have the big wheel to turn to angle them?
