Does anyone know what kind of drill bit this is

So my wifes uncle passed over the holidays, and I was left with his very extensive wood shop. I found a set of these bits and have to say I have never seen anything like them. At first I thought they were extractio bits but they are far to delicate in my opinion.

As I said, he had become somewhat of a master wood worker, and was into making wooden geared clocks.

That's a countersink drill for using brass wood screws in fine furniture.

The taper makes a hole that has more wood at the bottom to give more hold and matches the screw shape as opposed to normal screws which are straight all the way down.

They also generally cut quicker and easier.

Hello,
They are bits that are made for a particular size wood screw. They drill the pilot hole so you don't split your wood. They also have a countersink cutter at the top of the bit in case you want to have the screw you are driving to be countersunk. Each one is made for a certain size screw......they work very well !!!!!

You can tell how good they are by the tools they use. Very few people invest in something like this, so when you see specialized tools, you know you are dealing with somebody who takes a lot of pride in what they are doing!!!!

Yup, his loss was a surprise and a blow to the family, very well liked. Currently building my first serious wood project with his tools in his honor. It isn't much compared to what he did but hopefully it will honor him a bit.
