I am replacing my top link and trying to fit a new cylinder and wondering if I can eliminate the rocker on the tractor side.

what do you mean by "rocker" - ball joint? yes you need it because you'll never get the lift arms centered on the toplinke & the rig will bind up. If you are looking for an off the shelf hydraulic toplink - check out a tbn sponsor CCM Top & Tilt I'm very happy with mine. They even sell a hose kit eliminating a trip to the local hydraulic shop.

Well I have no idea what that is  . What tractor do you have? Maybe other's who know your machine can offer some advice.

I see that you have an old ford.. say 8n, NAA or hundred series?

Answer is YES you need the toplink rocker... You see that big spring that goes backintot he lift cover... you think that put that there for decoration? how about ballast? Nope... it's part of your draft sensing hyds. The toplink rocker is a mechanical amplification device... very light draft implements like a spring tooth cultivator would use the top hole to get more mechanical advantage and thus work the draft plunger which in turn adjusts the lift height to keep 'constant draft'. Heavier loads like a plw or disc use the hole closest to the picot point.. thus the lowest hole. Sam for heavy towed implements like a mower.. that way they aren't snatching back and forth on that draft control plunger that travels into your lift cover rear side and then hooks to a handfull of small metal parts the will bend up like pretzels if you treat them wrong... did Imention that almopst none of those parts are available from CNH? thus you have to get them salvage.. parting out a lift cover can be hundreds of dollars.

Sure.. go ahead and disconnect whatever you want.. Ford and ferguson probably didn't know what they were doing when they built it with that rocker anyway... (wink)

Right on the money Soundguy. I will be sure to keep this on my Ford 4000 for the next 45 years, just the same as the first. Thanks.

The rear setup on my Ford 2120 is almost the same. I believe you need to pull a pin to switch from position to draft control. When both pins are in, the "rocker" is pinned and cannot move. When you remove the locking pin, the arm can pivot and sense draft.
