I hate the stuff. It must be 80 percent acetone judging by the smell. It won’t cover anything and it’s nearly impossible to not get runs. That’s my experience with their paint. Rust-oleum is way better. To make matters even worse Lowe’s and Walmart carry almost exclusively Krylon. I had some self etching rust oleum primer from Walmart that covered great and didn’t run. I was looking for some more at Lowe’s and couldn’t find any. I thought maybe the Krylon primer didn’t suck. Nope, it sucks too.

I use to use a lot of it in the 70's... liked it.

Then something changed and it was no longer the same...

Wow had the opposite experience with rustoleam wanting to run and way to long to dry, plus put some cans on the shelf and used them a few months later plugged the tip and had to throw them out half full.
I did have good luck with the charcoal metallic Rustoleaum but the black with primer paint much prefer Krylon.

Actually liked the krylon Black with primer so much used it on AMX wheels at 55 degrees and then clear coated them with Dupont Nason Urethane spot/panel clear 30 minutes later

No problems and the wheels look Good

Hope they haven't screwed it up by (improving) the formula

It seems to me that spit-cans of paint used to cover better and run less than they do now.
I've gone to to using Rust-oleum in the can - applied with a brush or small 110v sprayer.
It sure is less convenient....but works way better.

What I'm looking for now is a good 110 volt sprayer that will clip onto a small can of paint and then after the job it will clean itself up by fitting onto a same size can of mineral spirits.

IF ONLY.. Scotty..
U might be on to something?? & it uses a pierce type connector like the Freon bottles/applicators.!!??

I'm not a fan either.. Rustoleum is the way ta go.. hella fast dry time..!!

Dont know who carries it or where to get it, or if its what you get at lowes....but the krylon "tough coat" is as good as any rattle can I have used. Its what we stock at work.

I've never had much problem with any of the known brands. I do look for one a better nozzle that I keep an eye out for. Some have a better spray pattern which helps with runs. The better nozzles are also easier on the finger too.

I've used both Rusto & Krylon. My problem is - applying too much and getting runs. If I do it the way it is supposed to be done - no problems. I have never used either brand and expected to get an OEM finish. Its just covering a rust spot, scratch or worn painted area.

The only time the rattle can spray paint will last forever - when I overspray on an unwanted area.

While there is a difference between manufacturers of spray can paints, most problems are caused by trying to apply too thick of a coat rather than a couple of thin coats of paint or holding the can too close to the object being painted.

In the past I had been guilty of both, until I learned better.

Ain't that the truth..! LOL

Add me to the I HATE KRYLON group.

I rattle canned my 855 with Rustoleum farm implement paint and it came out great.

Went to Lowe's to grab a can of yellow a while back and they had switched to Krylon. You have to be extremely careful not to get runs and it will take several coats to cover. Tractor Supply has both brands but they charge a couple of bucks more than Lowes did. It's still a better deal than needing 3 cans and so many more hours than using Krylon.

I use Duplicolor from auto parts stores. The Machinery Gray covers bare steel in one coat no runs. Tough too.

For better rust protection I use Rustoleum, but I like Krylon for laying out a nice build up of color and an excellent finish. It dries fast so I can apply several light coats, like the instructions say to do on all spray paint, with just a few minutes between coats.

I stick with Rustoleum and always use the most expensive primer that they have available before applying the paint. It's been a couple years, but I believe it's in a shiny silver colored can. Then I try to use their premium spray paints too. Most of the time I'm just painting a railing or bracket of some kind, so it's usually gloss black. But primer is the more important part of any paint job.

Krylon and Rustoleum both manufacture several types but no retailer will stock them all. I've used both and have no complaints. Using the right product for the job is where it's at. Rattle cans of any brand is an insane undertaking for painting a tractor or implement. I have a small HVLP that I use if it's bigger than a bread box. Try one of the little inexpensive HVLP rigs. If you don't like it,take it back,if you like it,keep it sqeeky clean and it will last for decades. It use's 25% as much paint as conventional compressed air, very little to no drift/overspray and best of all,the place isn't full of mist when you get through.

I found on my John Deere dozer, for touch up, that the John Deere brand from the dealer was the best. Better paint and a larger can. While the TSC paint was ok, the can has a lot less paint in it.

To the person who said you cannot paint over powder coated trailer steel, I beg to differ. I have some silver over spray on black and will not come off. Sure is purdy on one side of my trailer though.

I bought some Krylon flat black from Lowes a couple weeks ago and it had terrible coverage.
