Does anyone mow 3+ acres with a $2000 mower?

My experience is like Dougs. I have had a couple Craftsman riding mowers. The first one I bought to mow a one acre lot. It did a fair job on this easy mowing piece. Then we moved to the farm and bought Craftsman mower mostly because it was all we could afford. Our lawn is rough and tricky with the occasional rock. My wife uses it most the time. I have had to replace or fix the front axle, blade spindles, many blades, and some sheet metal. Compare the quality of the front axle and blade spindles. Most the cheaper mowers have stamped axles and aluminum spindles. These break really easy. They are cheap to replace but it takes time.

I guess if you have the time to mow 3+ acres with a $1,500 mower...go for it..For me, free time is too preciouse to be sitting on a mower for 6 hours a week...That's why I just bought a ZTR and have cut my mowing time to less than half.

I tried a zero turn mower out a few weeks ago and found it rode too bumpy for my poor old back to take. Back to the old Gravely 812 with the cushy bass boat seat on it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
It takes longer but my back will still respect me later /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I mow my larger non lawn areas with a sharp bush hog behind a 4000 lb tractor, rides smooth, is fast, and cost 3k, used but works fine.

When i moved to the country I picked up a TSC Huskee (MTD) 22hp 46" deck mower. Cost me about $1700. I beat that thing to death, 5 years later I still have, it looks like its beat but still mowers. Deck is not as level as it use to be and I am thinking of replacing it with a Cub 1050. yea I would like to have a $12k JD2210 or Kubota bx but budgets not going to allow that.

Well, for some the ZTR is great but you haven't seen my property /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. If I could use one I would have one /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.
