I just got new tires for my tractor, and I had SLIME in my old ones. The dealer stated that the SLIME was bad for the tires, in that it would over time soften them up so bad that they fall apart from the inside out! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I asked what would work, and of course they said that the JD sealer didn't do that to the tires.

O.K....... now what to I do? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Is it true about the SLIME and if so what should I use? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I do want to use something in case of a puncture. Any help would be great! Von

Von,
I have used Slime for several years and have had no problem with it. If it caused a problem such as your dealer said, then everyone would know about it by now. It has been out for quiet a while.

I've never heard about anyone having that problem with Slime. I agree that if it caused a problem people would know about it by now.

I do know that tire guys don't like it because it's kinda a mess when repairing or changing a tire.

Von I had it in my tires for 4+ years with no ill effects. I sold that tractor but I do plan on putting it in my TC-40D tires before the snow flies. I'm just having too much fun playing on the darn thing to do much of anything else. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I thought the reason my tires wore out. Was because I was doing a lot of FEL work in FWD on my asphalt driveway. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The guy is sellin' a competin' product, and you think his word is gospel? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif If you are really worried, put tubes in the tires and put the slime in the tubes. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Does SLIME eat away at the inside of the tires

Ron,
My tires were worn worse than yours! they were bald in the center! The new ones are alot stiffer in the sidewalls being 6 ply. I don't get much bounce with the FEL on like I did with the Turf Savers. And the tread is much deeper on the Multi- Trac's. I think these tires will make a big difference this winter! I'll let you know in a few weeks.

I agree with the others.. he's straight lieing to ya.. I'd also find another dealer... and perhaps even email the co. that owns slime and get a real explanation... then take that reply and send it to Deer & co HQ.... they need to know their dealers are running a line of bull.... and not only does it cost them the tire seal product sales.. but it altogether looses them customers.. because of the lie.. etc..

If slime ate rubber.. I doub't tubes pre-filled with slime would be on the shelf,.. NTSC would be all over them..

The biggest problem with someone (the salesman) propagating a false statement is that once you find out about it you're never sure that you can trust the dealer again and certainly not the individual.

Good point Soundguy. I didn't think about the preloaded tubes. You can bet that if there was a problem with the stuff no tube manufacturer would put it in new tubes and no retailer would be selling them.

My John Deere Dealer sells and promotes slim. I have had it in my Lawn mower (JD LX 176) for many years and it has never been a problem. It works very well. Check the manf. website to see what they say.
