Does the 17LA stick out due to ss

/ Does the 17LA stick out due to ss #11
Jim,
I just figured it had to have a more forward design since the wheelbases are different and thought that the tires actually turn to the front of the machine whereas the conventional fwd would hit the sides if it were located the same. The overall length with FWD is 125.2 and with SS is 129.6. Could be the way the measure the two units also???

By golly, you are right, Jerry. The dimension for overall length is a little over 4" more with SuperSteer, but I think there's a "gotcha" in those numbers. I believe they are stating maximum length. That means they are measuring with the steering turned maximum in either direction so the front SuperSteer axle is fully rotated. The would bring one tire out in front while the other one rotates back. Since the normal axle can't do this, that accounts for the additional dimension. Does that make sense?

If you turn to the next page in the Operator's Manual, dimension #2, Wheel Base is stated as 73.5" for all FWD tractors with no difference stated for Supersteer. That leads me to believe the wheelbase is the same for all tractors because it is measured center axle to center axle. Here is the confusing part. They say for Ag tires, the wheelbase is 81.0". How in heck do you change wheelbase by changing the tire diameter? See what I mean? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
