Last night I was in my garage and I noticed the pair of red, white, and blue Bicentennial license plates Michigan issued back in 1976 that I had saved when they expired. It got me to thinking that it used to be I could get a pair of real metal plates for maybe $25 per year, and today here in Michigan you have to keep the same plate on a vehicle practically forever and you pay $100-200 for a square inch stick on tab to renew your registration. What a ripoff, not to mention that means we can't get a new number every year...
Are there any states that still issue a new metal license plate every year?
