Awhile back I posted a question about dog kennels, more specifically what kind you dog owners out there recommend. Well, I've decided - it's going to be a Magnum Series by Behlen Mfg. I looked at quite a few others. Those that made it to the final cut besides Behlen were Priefert and Powder River. I would have purchased any of these. Behlen just happens to have a dealer within minutes of my place in Chateaugay, New York.
Next up - dog houses. I did build one some time ago out of 3/8" plywood with a 2" Styrofoam core. I put a "piglet warmer" in the bottom. It's a rigid plastic mat that only consumes about 15 watts of power, so not enough heat to actually feel, just enough not to be cold (does that make any sense?/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif). The cost in materials and the time it took to build added to the fact that plywood absorbs most liquids is directing me to purchase one instead. I'm leaning towards the K-9Kondo Dog Den II, but, as always, I'm open for suggestions. Bear in mind that summer temperatures reach about 95 degrees with 80 - 90% humidity and winters get down to -20 to -30.
Also, water buckets. I have a Canine Canteen. It's an enamel coated steel bucket that has a coil around it and is set in a larger plastic shell. It has served me well for the last 3 winters, but it's time to replace it. Any recommendations? I was thinking about going with just plain steel buckets and using a separate heating element that clips onto the kennel.
