i have sharpened the bottom blade, (one that does not move) and then upper blade (one that moves side to side) a couple other times, and it gave new life to the shears.

but this time around, the shear is pulling hair, (tried on myself) and i have to force the shears through my own hair, and for the one pup it won't even cut her hair.

A = both blades are nice and even with each other
B = the teeth of both blades, grind together some
C = there is some space between both blades so they don't grind each other.

i currently have A, or at least i think i do.

not sure if i am grinding enough off or not from both bottom and top blade portions maybe?

the spring clip, i don't have scale right at moment, to test how hard it is to slide the top blade back and forth, i had it set at 2lbs maybe 1 lbs or was it ounces? what ever i got off of some youtube videos. everything seems to be setting nice and level with one another including the spring clip. and i still have a lot more i could grind off of each blade, compared to videos i saw on youtube, that had the blades down to point there was no grove on bottom or top blade.

am using a new flat stone for sharpening knives with. so it should be grinding evenly and i am not getting any sort of teeter tottoer between the 2 blades.

I use Oster A5 clippers on my dogs. I've used them for several years. I have dog teeth marks on my clippers.

I keep at least ten #10 and a couple #40 A5 blades. When a blade becomes dull (won't cut or pulls fur), I change the blade. When I have ten blades that need sharpening, I send them to Oster Direct, 904 Red Road, McMinnville, TN, 37110 tel (800)830-3678. The last I time sent blades for sharpening (2013), the cost was $5.50 each plus shipping, handling, and tax. The blades can be resharpened many times and Oster will repair if necessary. Personally,I am not going to fool with disassembling and sharpening blades myself.

In my opinion dog hair is harder to cut than human hair. Some breeds, like Shetland sheep dogs have a very fine undercoat and a coarse outer coat. Other breeds like Maltese and Poodles have a very fine, thick single coat.

Clipper blades are hollow ground. I take mine to a sharpener that does clipper blades. They have a grinder specially made for clipper blades that has a convex stone. You can go mailorder as noted above. Agreed, a dog's coat is way tougher than human hair. Clipping a poodle is somewhat like shearing a sheep.

We have a goodlendoodle, and its a very soft but dense hair. I normally start with scissors, then put on a 2-3 clip and then go back to scissors to get what i missed.

I've tried cutting my dogs hair( cocker spaniel). You have tooth marks on your clipper - I had tooth marks on my hand & arm. He would jump around, wiggle, squirm, growl, cry - - everything except remain still. And the one time I did "chop" his hair - he sulked around the house for almost a week. It ain't worth it!!! I take him to the groomer.

kujo. he is a wild man, attention, attention attention, he wants. nick name "taz" always has to have a tow in his mouth.
he doesn't like to be rolled on his back. other wise, he is easy going, last time shaved, the little poo, fell asleep on me, while i was shaving him :/
he will extend his legs, move around on his own, without me really doing anything, so i can shave this or that area. his mind frame last time though, leave my neck and face alone. he wanted lions mane i guess. from palws, to tail, to underneath, to everything else, just not his face/neck last time. *shrugs shaking his head in bewilderment*

shadow, runt that she is. at first is skiddish about the clipper/shaver. but that goes away in first minute, and then she sprawls out, she is small enough and doesn't really care what i do to her. (roll her around, pull on her, what not) she just shrugs it off. her tail and ears are a no no.

============
very first time shaving kujo, he did snap at the clippers, i yelled, grabbed a hold of his neck, and brought him to the ground, showing him i was boss, and it was the end of that, ok i take that back 2nd time ever shaving he went after the shavers with a snip, and initially scared, after a few minutes it went away.

shadow, initial first couple times, laid there and shook, and tucked herself up against me as much as possible, now a dozen times shaved, if i stop shaving, because i need a break, she paws me, noses me, etc... till i get back down there to finish shaving, and even then still wants the shaver afterwords... *arghs*

==============
have learned to shave/clip there sides first, in the belly area right next to there rear legs. so that the rear foot starts to shake and move as if tickling them with the shaver/clippers. i leave bottom of stomach area, for later on just those sides. if i can avoid there rear of there back legs. and just the inner and outer sides of there legs, and then there back, they relax even more. i normally wait till the end to do bottom of paws, or sneak a few clips in, if i need to take a break.

they both have "matted" fur right against there skin, regardless of shampoo or like, and courser outter hair, have learned if i do a reciprocating motion (like a reciprocating saw). (in/out) of hair that has not been cut, gives a much more better look / cleaner cut, without all the matted hair sticking up after a single cut. and then needing to shave them a couple more times afterwards. and it seems easier on the pups, as well. i guess it acts more like a good massage, rather than being a punching bag, and clipping them all over the place quickly and multi times. *shrugs*

both dogs respond better with me when i put "harnesses" on them. vs a regular neck collar.

harness = a loop for both front legs, and then a collar around neck, and a strap that goes further back, just behind there front legs. i can grab the harness easier for leash, and or simply grab it, and pull them and turn them with little effort and they respond better, vs if i had to use a collar on them (they know better what way to turn or move) with a slight twisting / motion of the harness

harness = they don't try to turn around and try to pull collar off and around there heads, granted i joke some the harness is like a bra, but *shrugs*

A sturdy dog trimming table and collar also helps.We use oster golden A5 model on both of our brittanys.No issues.

picked up 2 sets of wahls blades plus oil for 10 bucks a piece, free shipping if ya don't mind the 1 to 2 week delivery.

i didn't have the old blades set right 1/32 difference between blade that doesn't move, and the blade that does. (moving blade 1/32 from edge of other)

regardless my sharping skills vs new blades woozers. there is a difference.

normal clippers i use of wahls, i had to do some fine tuning with a dremal to accept the "moving blade" blade shape was different. *shrugs* started with that got about 1/4th into it and had a soldering come undone right at the motor for a wire. it has a slighly higher RPM / beefer motor than other clippers. seems to run smoother as well. so placed that aside and got out the 15 plus year old clippers of wahls, fudge around with it a bit to get the new blades lined up correctly. and went at it. a couple days latter finally got both dogs done, cleaning up the little areas i missed. more like dogs got so stir crazy and happy to get the fur off i couldn't keep them still and behaving.

------
shadow base of tail, fur so thick, and fine and fluffy and small, that looks like she has a golf ball at base of tail. and then a T shape end of tail. *shakes head* rest of tail just fine shaving but not those 2 spots...so she now looks like she has some sort of antenna stick off the back side of her. *looks embarrassed*

kujo, won't let me clean up his ears, ear wax and hair clumps. hopefully with another person this weekend will be able to clean them up. until then. looks like some rag doll toy, that gots its abuse, from childeren around his ears :/ been fine before *don't know shaking his head in shame*
