My Jack Russel just absolutly hates it when I use my air nail guns. Normally it's just funny, but when he starts pulling on the line and I'm at the top of the 'extendo' ladder....He is very serious about it too. I can lift him off the ground and keeps his grip.

As my wife says " It's all fun and games until some one gets hurt!" Like my new air hose!

He hates the chain saw too but, he goes in side when I cut.

Any body have a dog that hates some tool?

Not quite the same - but the cat is now 18 and has become stone deaf. We can vacuum right next to her and she just watches.

This is a drastic change - she always ran away when she heard it. I always thought she must have had a frightening experience with a vacuum when she, and also my my kids, were all very young.

Paddy, we used to have a rat terrier that didn't mind car or truck engines. In fact, if you opened the door to a car or pickup (engine running or not) he'd do his best to beat you into it because he loved to ride. But if I started the engine on the tractor, he'd take off; wouldn't get near the tractor with the engine running. He spent a lot of time with me in the shop building, but anytime I used any of the air tools (blow gun, impact, ratchet, grinders, etc.), he'd take off; didn't want to be anywhere near them.

And now we've got a chihuahua and she wants to be right in the middle of whatever's going on; have to watch to keep her from getting hurt because she'll stick her nose right into anything that's running.

Bird,I have a Rat terrier that runs when I even look at my air gun , touch the hose, or turn on the compressor.

Paddy,

Try coating your hose with something he wont like. Cyan pepper or tobasco might work, or maybe some WD40. If you make it taste bad enough to him, he'll leave your hose alone.

My Jack Russel hates a push type lawn mower. She is fine until I start it, then she tries to tear the wheels off. She has to go insde when I start anything with a small engine. she even tried to pick a fight with a plate compactor.

Our old golden retriever doesn't flinch when a gas motor starts, but for some reason, when I start the Kubota, she RUNS away. It must be a frequency thing or something, but she is terrified of it, even when its not running.

Go figure?

My English Bulldog just absolutely flips out when My 3 year old runs her remote control truck. The dog tackles it and then grabs it and shakes the crap out of it.. It is hilarious !!! Anything that can move on its own. a small fan that rotates, any toy that moves... etc.. Too Funny !!!

Don't worry, your dog is just trying to protect you from nailing yourself in a vital body part.
I have two dogs, a mixed breed that is part chihuahua and part minature lab. She is about 14 yrs. old now and has always bared her teeth and barked like mad anytime I fire up the motorcycle to go anywhere, even snaps at my leg as I go by her. I know the sound doesn't hurt her ears, she just doesn't want me to leave. She does just the opposite and wags her tail when she sees me pull back into the driveway. Does the same thing when I start the truck, she knows I'm going somewhere. Air tools don't bother her, she's just happy to be near or around me when I working in the garage or outside.
The other is a toy fox terrier (1 yr. old male) He does the same as the mixed. He copies what she does when I leave or return.

The vacuum cleaner. Just this morning my wife was out with the cleaner and I had to step around both of them while Sammy tried to conquer the end.
