Dogs and neighbors.

   / Dogs and neighbors. #331
Restrain my dog that is staying on MY property? She does not go out without being watched. So instead of letting an active dog hunt on property that I own I should keep her penned up within 100 ft of the house because the neighbor kid will not leave her alone and stop calling her. More like restrain the neighbor kid. The dog was behaving and doing nothing wrong, as a matter of fact doing her job keeping pests such as field mice and moles down. I don't see how I, or my dog is at fault for the neighbor calling her over.

Like you, any of our dogs when outside NOT in a penned area are under our supervision (for the most part, impossible to keep all of them under 24/7 DIRECT supervision when out with numerous dogs). All of our dogs who need a training collar has one (we actually have 3 transmitters, each will control 2 collars LOL). Generally, vibrate is all that is needed as we've actually trained them with the collar and electro stimulus is generally not needed LOL

YOU are at fault after the first time your dog goes to your neighbor's yard EVEN if your neighbor calls your dog over because your dog is your property and per your own comment, you watch her. So, either you aren't watching her very well or she doesn't listen to you very well. Not certain which it is.

As for electric fences, although sometimes they do work, sometimes they don't. I've known many dogs (about 6) that would take a electric hit if chasing something off the property. I've also known a couple of dogs to take a hit to leave the property but then would stay outside the property line afraid to take the hit coming back. Added, electric fences do nothing to keep "not your critters" out of the area. Don't get me wrong, electric fences are better than nothing, but they won't beat an actual fence from my own experience.
