Here is my tractor dog, he sat patiently up there to make sure I was wearing my seat belt. The cat guards the tractor at night but don't mess with my Mule.

I would let my dog ride on the Deere 3720 but she likes to lay across the floor so you cant use the hydro pedals.

My SIL calls them "tuxedo" cats. Our Batman has a perfect disposition for a cat and will come when called. He's very friendly and a terror when you break out the kitty treats. Every time I drag a hose across the yard, he "helps" me by attacking that big long "snake."

Sure is good to hear someone has a nice tuxedo cat. Ours has picked up the nickname "biting dirtroller" because of her two bad habits.

She will purr and rub against you until you pet her, when she will grab your hand with all four feet worth of claws and bite like an alligator.

Dave, of our 5 cats, two of them have a similar habit. They roll over on their back and show you their belly. When you rub it, they get their feet going and their claws are out. They also nibble, but rarely bite hard. Their sharp claws are the dangerous thing. Even though they are playing, they can give you a nasty scratch. Batman likes to have his belly scratched, but all he does is lick your hand while you are doing it. He really is the ideal. His daddy, Joker, is one of the scratchers. However, when you pick Joker up, he tenses up and goes into a ball as if he is terrified of an attack. He doesn't bite or scratch, just balls up and makes a "squeak" sound. Really brave, huh?

Mine bites really hard.

A few years ago she came running into our bedroom in the morning and for no reason at all (other then orneryness) she bit my hand. I had to go get antibiotic shots and the Dr. asked "whodunit?"

So I confessed to the cat being the culprit, and the next thing I know animal control is knocking at the door. The cat is old enough that our vet said she shouldn't have rabies vaccinations. Well that meant quarantine for two weeks, and off she went to cat jail.

Didn't learn a darned thing in there, she still bites.

We have a bunch of cats and one is named Merlin. We call him "puss puss" but really he is "the Dread Pirate Pis*y Puss" because he is really sweet like yours Jim until you try and pet him. 2 pats and all of a sudden he is a devil, biting and scratching really hard!

We have a tuxedo cat too, named Bart. He is a real sucky baby sweet as pie. A great cat.

This is Merlin.

Our old tuxedo cat must be senile, because every night she creeps into the family room while we watch TV, sniffing and moving cautiously. She looks at us like we were complete strangers, and about 2 nights out of 3, we don't pass inspection, and she leaves. There is one spot, a small cabinet in the hall, where she greets everyone, and meows to be petted. ONLY there, nowhere else.

That routine where they grab you and kick with their hind legs is how they disembowel prey in the wild- our tabby does that.

Our cats are outside cats during the daytime and garage cats at night. We don't allow them inside our house. They all have their shots and are fixed. These five cats arrived as a group, making us believe they were dumped. There were three tiny kitties, a momma, and a tomcat. The momma cat was extremely outgoing and friendly. The tomcat acts like he was abused and was extremely skittish. There is no real place to take them in this area and we needed some outside cats for rodent control. My wife lost her cat before we were married and has been wanting another. These kitties arrived just at the right time for us to accept them and adopt them. The were a pitiful lot of skinny and hungry kitties.

It has taken a big effort to get the cats healthy and teach them good habits. One of the kittens became ill while it was young. It was too young to have its shots according to the vet. We treated it with two types of antibiotics and finally cured the disease, but his fever was so high that it did some brain damage. He is now uncoordinated enough that he is klutzy. His nickname is Floppy because sometimes his rear end gets away from him and he falls over. He also has a split personality. Some days he will run up to you and meow loudly until you pick him up. Other days, he goes into a defensive posture and will hiss at you if you approach him. We carefully feed him and pet him when he will let us. He's one of the ones who will play rough if you let him.

The tomcat is a solid black cat. He has about doubled size since he first arrived. His coat was ungroomed, but now is thick and long. He has gone from being totally defensive and terrified if you touched him, to being friendly and much more outgoing. He still stiffens up and whimpers for a second or two when you pick him up. If you play with him and rub his belly, he will get his back legs going with his claws partially extended. He will also bite, but not hard. He acts as if he is playing and doesn't know he is doing anything wrong.

The momma cat, Prissy, and Batman are easily the best natured of all the cats. Prissy goes with me to the garden every morning and Batman "helps" me when I'm doing yardwork. They are a joy. We have to be careful not to step on them because they are under our feet so much.

Punkin is a very independent kitty. She does socialize with the other cats, but she also goes her own way a lot. She was very friendly in the beginning and now seems to avoid us at all times except meal times. If there is one kitty that will not come into the garage at night, it's most likely Punkin.

So we have these five little cats and we've really become attached to them. I've never been a cat person, but I admit they are a lot less trouble than a dog. They don't chase cars and they don't have to be trained to use the potty box. They also have brought us a lot of mice "prizes" to show off their hunting skills. Of course, they terrorize our tree lizards too. So far only one bird has been caught. It was a little titmouse that didn't have a lucky day.
