DONG FENG 254 Will not start, no fuel at the injector pump

Hi Everyone

I hope you are all keeping well in this current situation.

I wonder if you can help me.

I have a Dong Feng 254 Tractor.

It wont start, it s fuel problem.

I have no fuel coming out of the injecector pump (IP)

The tractor has been stood a while, it had been running fine.

I had to open the fuel line from the fuel tank to the lift pump to insert an in line filter.

So when I came to bleed the fuel system, my problems start.

The lift pump (LP) works I have a strong flow at the main fuel filter and when i hand crank the LP, I have goog pressure at the bleed screw of the fuel filter. Next I go to the 3 lines on the IP. I crack one open and when cranking the engine over, I get no fuel. It is the same for all 3 lines.

And so I am stumped now.

I am assuming as the tractor was running fine previously, that the IP is ok.

Is there another step I should be doing to bleed the IP?
Is there a bleed screw on the IP?
How do I confirm that the pump is operating?

I am am not ever so engine mechanically minded ( Retired Royal Air Force, Avionics Tech) If it had an auto pilot, a RADAR or a weapons system...I could fix that.

I don't know but is the fuel shut off stuck closed at the pump....:confused3:

Ok here's where my lack of "mechanicals" comes in.

Where is the "shut off" located?

I think there is an electrically operated lever that is energised when I turn the ignition key and shuts off when ignition is off.

I have never worked with this motor, but most have a wire going to them that is live when the key is turned, and this opens the fuel valve, The valve looks like a small spark plug. These valves do sometimes fail, sometimes the wire connection will come loose sometimes they fall off. If you find the wire and its tight, you could try switching the key on and check power is getting to the valve. Make sure you don`t short it out or you will blow a fuse. The fuel valve will be in the supply side on the injector pump. Failing that, you could do the old method of taking each injector pipe at the pump off and back filling the pump with fuel. An old oil can full of fuel, or a washing up liquid container will do, but,,,but make sure you keep everything clean. Good luck.

That could very well be your problem. Do you have a handle or knob that you pull to stop the engine? Instead, many diesel engines will have an external or built-in solenoid to pull the rack closed when de-energized. If power is interrupted to the solenoid coil a spring will pull the rack to the no fuel position. Check to see if you hear a clicking sound at the injection pump when you turn the key switch (no ignition on diesels) on and off. Could be a bad wiring connection or a blown fuse if that's the system you have.

Where the fuel line comes down from the tank to the lift pump there is a banjo fitting. Switch off the fuel at the tank, then undo the bolt on this banjo fitting. I think it is 16mm AF weird size.The bolt is hollow, and inside there is a tiny mesh filter. If the tractor has done much grass work the filter will be clogged. Blow it clean with air pipe, rinse in diesel fuel, blow it through again, and put it back together. DO NOT LET GO OF THE FILTER WHILE YOU BLOW IT THROUGH! The filter is about 1" long and 1/4 " diameter and very difficult to find in a messy workshop. Guess how I know this.

Yep I know that mesh filter very well....the mesh filter in my banjo fitting crumbled to death the last time I cleaned it.
I cant find a replacement to purchase anywhere ..that is why I have fitted an line filter.
