I have a df-354 and the hydraulic power steering went out. All other hydraulics seem fine just the steering went gradually until now I turn the steering wheel and nothing happens. I need specs on the gear (it has a tag on it but all chinese) so I can shop for a replacement. Anybody have any experience with this?

Hi, I have a newer DF354. first need a little more detail.

1. What year and model?
2. Do you have2 hydraulic pumps.- I'll assume 2- Could be a bad pump
3. Check the steering knuckle itself, where the steering cylinder attaches. I lost my steering once due the nut coming loose that attaches the cylinder to the knuckle - You can feel it under the boot cover or loosen the boot and check . The knuckle is threaded into the cylinder and the nut locks it

You could even have a bad seal on the cylinder itself and the fluid is just bypassing around.

I would check the obvious mechanical stuff first, then the hydraulics. Of course it definitely could be the steering gear.

Chip at POWER UP WITH ArTRAC TRACTORS would be your parts source and info source if in the US. In Canada there are a number as well.

I would check the steering cylinder first it may be leaking by a bad seal, the steering machine is pretty costly to replace. Take one of the hoses off at the cylinder, start the tractor turn the wheel if you get hydraulic pressure there you have a bad seal on the cylinder, if nothing it could be a bad pump or steering machine

Does it look like this ??

Some versions have a sperate hyd tank for the steering. Also as others have said, it could be the pump (Hard to steer), leaky cylinder (internally you wont see it leak causes lack of control) and lastly the steering motor. Take the lines off the cylinder and put into bucket, turn the wheel (tractor does not need to be running) if oil comes out one hose when you turn the wheel, and the other when you turn it the other way the motor is probably OK, try again with engine running, (will have a lot more flow) this would indicate the pump is running. if oil comes out both hoses at the same time, then I would replace the steering motor, we have it in stock.
