Don\'t be in a hurry when buying antifreeze...

Speaking of antifreeze...

My wife and I were at the local Wally World the other day, and I said I wanted to pick up a couple of gallons of antifreeze. They had the brand name in the yellow bottle for $6 something and a non-brand in a black bottle for $3 something. I'm not one to buy the off brand, but this was a big difference in price, so I picked up a gallon to read the smaller letters underneath the main name on the front of the bottle--
50-50 water/antifreeze mix! I wonder how many people who shop only on price have been in a hurry and bought this, not really knowing that they were getting half as much antifreeze as the yellow bottle?

This product may be marketed more as a convenience for folks who don't want to or are not in a position to mix their own 50/50 water/antifreeze mix before installing. In either case, one is still getting the same equivalent amount of antifreeze for each dollar spent.

Yeah, about the same cost. Hopefully those who buy the premixed stuff will read the label and not mix it 50/50 and wind up with a 25% mix /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Then wonder why their block froze up this coming winter. I caught my father in law doing this

I'm sure they say it's marketed as being more convenient, but I'm sure there's an equal or greater amount of people who only see the price and buy it because it's cheaper than the yellow brand right next to it. It's not clearly marked that it's a 50-50 mix. To me, that's deception.

Re: Don\'t be in a hurry when buying antifreeze...

yea i was in walmart with my girlfriend the other day and figured i would pick up some more coolant for my ford 8000 since i had to do a waterpump on it, i too almost fell for the offbrand stuff, but luckly i noticed that it was premixed and went with the yellow jug instead. i usualy try and wait till late fall when coolant usualy goes on sale for about half what it normaly is, 6 bucks is kinda steep, last fall i think i picked it up at walmart for about $3.75 on sale
