DON'T BUY A MONTANA

STAY AWAY FROM MONTANA. I bought mine a year ago, a 4940C with FEL. When I got it there were 42 hours on it. I now have over 250. It has had revery regular maintenance. It was a demo that sat in Kansas for three years. I had looked around East Texas for quite a while but the Bobcat dealer in McKinney dropped them in favour of Kioti. The dealer in Sulphur Springs dropped them and went back to the rental business, the dealer in Van got out of tractors all together.
Last year the gas tank sprung a leak (I've never heard of any other "new" tractor" doing that) and it took over three weeks to get a new tank out of Arkansas. This year the back window exploded and I was told it's not a warranty item. Then yesterday I was out shredding in the field and the seat collapsed because the two plastic mounts broke. The head liner was all warped from the heat when I got the tractor.
As to the seat breakage Montana won't warranty that either as "it's out of the warranty period".
Oh, and they said the guy in Sulphur Springs would be able to supply me a price on the rear window. I'm still waiting for him to call back with a price.

I went all the way up to the CEO's executive assistance to get the gas tank finally. I also called her on the other items but got the same response.

DON'T BUY A MONTANA ....... THE SUPPORT AND PARTS RESPONSE SUCK.
Get a New Holland, John Deere or Kabota. I now wished that I had.

There is a Montana dealer right there in East Texas. I've talked to him on the phone from my home and he's willing to order any part I want him to and drop ship it to me, as long as I have a part#.

Don't understand why you're so upset. Compared to those other brands you've mentioned, the Montana was probably a really good price, and especially since it was a 3 yr old demo, with better quality and more options. You're still ahead of the game by far I'll bet, money wise. You can afford a couple problems at that rate.

First off there are several things here that I would like to bring up. I too have not seen a fuel tank spring a leak. I have seen then punctured (rare and operator error), seen one or two sending units need to be replaced but overall really no problems like leaks I know of. They have been solid and reliable and I have folks with them with hours in the 1000's on them being used under heavy logging use and lots of other uses. Very well built and durable and of the highest quality in my opinion.

So, you state you searched for a long time and then bought a model that was on a dealers lot for 3 years. Was that dealer a local dealer? Did you bypass local dealers for this purchase? Did you contact local dealers on the fuel tank "leak"?

Did you actually ever look at the tractor before the purchase or did you buy it sight unseen?

If you had looked at the tractor prior to purchase then you surely would have seen the warped headliner and you took the machine anyway. Why would that be Montana's fault? Did you ever bring this up to the dealer?

As for the rear window who knows, I have seen one rear window blow out and the owner is lucky he was not hurt badly as it was his fault after a piece of a pto came through it. Again operator error so no faulty rear windows I know of.

The seat is out of warranty. The tractor was on a lot for years with 42 hours on it when you got it. What more can said on this.

You may have gotten a great deal on it, I don't know but it would seem that your problems are not not really Montana related. They won't sell you parts directly as it has to go through the dealer network. I for one would like to thank Montana for this. THANKS MONTANA!

How long was the seat broken when you contacted Montana and then posted here? Was it a day (it looks like less than 24hours) or two weeks? Did you try and get it straightened out with your selling dealer or someone else other than Montana corporate?

Really, there is one thing I have seen that I can say is very consistent in this industry and that is the person who will shop for hundreds or even thousands of miles for the best deal is often the person you can't please no matter what and they also are the ones who will be the first to go out and scream and yell over things that are out of manufactures control.

The above is not a 30 or 40 year old Kubota. The Kubota above is a good machine and I am not trying to slight Kubota but you mentioned they don't have these type of problems and I quickly want to point out to all who read this that Montana has been a great company to work with (not perfect, no one is) but have been great in overall support.

I will tell you that when a customer comes to me with some type of extenuating (sp?) circumstance and I approach Montana with it they have been good.

I would contact the selling dealer or a dealer locally if not your selling dealer and have them work with you vs. contacting corporate. Try it and who knows.

This is the second Montana bashing thread I've read today. I'd have to say that Montana either attracts some pretty persnickity consumers, or somebody or bodies are out to dampen Montana tractor sales.

If my tractor had these glitches occur I would have to call it an incovenience. I don't think I'd be hollering "down with Montana" for everyone to hear.

Just seems strange to me.

But I think the comment about the dealers are noteworthy. When I looked around(and still look at yards/dealers when I see tractors), it seems many of the Montana "dealers" are just tractors parked in a yard. They could be here today and gone tomorrow.

I don't want to pile on - but looking at the OPs previous posts, since getting the tractor in March '07 - there is nothing but positive raves even up until July - so these three items (oh, and the cupholder) are the only major issues after 17 months and 100+ hours to warrant such a change of heart?

I have heard of gas tanks leaking - bad manufacturing batch, weak seams

I haven't heard of glass imploding spontaneously - but I've seen a miniscule chip on glass for over a year suddenly cause the whole window to go at once.

This items, plus the seat and cupholder would annoy me - but not enough to abandon what I felt was a great value in the first place. If I had a strong workhorse of a tractor with cheap "trim" components - and saved thousands - I would be happy. I would even sorta expect it....
