Not sure if this has been posted, but my wife sent this a few days ago. We preach to our kids not to run in the house or while holding objects.

Yea, it's sad the poor little boy had to learn that lesson the hard way. I guess he's lucky it wasn't a knife that would have cut more.

I showed that pic to my daughter a year or so ago and she still wants to be a pediatric physician. In college I thought I wanted to be a physician but realized that it just tears me up too much to see a hurt child. I can be as tough as nails on many things, but I have a soft spot for women and children. I'm afraid that my emotions would have prevented me from being effective as a physician. I do feel very fortunate that each of my 5 kids got all A's on their report cards this last semester and 4 of the 5 have maintained perfect 4.0 GPA's. (have to brag on my kids a bit, sorry) My oldest daughter is the one who wants to be a physician (has 4.0 GPA and nearly perfect SAT score) and my next daughter, a black belt in karate, who also holds a perfect 4.0 GPA wants to be an attorney. I'm just thrilled that it looks like they may get free rides in college with their perfect GPA's and top testing scores.

Maybe at least one of my kids will be the physician who fixes accidents like the one in the picture. I'm just an aging redneck. I'd be the one rushing this child to the hospital in a horrified panic.

Congrats to your children. Your good parenting has paid off so far.

My father lost a battle to cancer of his bladder caused by a chemical in 1994 at the age of 54 and he was treated at M.D. Anderson in Houston for a few years. When we would go, I was about 16 at the time, it just tore me up seeing all the children in there suffering. I couldn't be a physician either because that just gets to me. It was bad enough seeing my father go through that and then to see children doing the same. We are so blessed our children are healthy considering there are many that have children who are not. It's horrible they may have to go through that, or anyone for that matter.

Encourage her, she seems like she has the right stuff and certainly the talent. She'll find that it is not that hard to tune out the crying when it is necessary to focus on helping the kids. Also a vacation is both necessary and curative if the crying ever stops bothering her.

Advise her to become a diagnostic radiologist(interventional)...she'll make 10 times the money for the same educational commitment...;)

And these are 2003/2004 salaries!!!!
