I knew this before i did it (Don't use your shoulder pushing tree's over) some thing that I've heard people do and have laughed at think that's stupid . Well I went and did just that back in Nov 15th 2011. Not Good !
I was taking down a lg. birch with the weight on the back side of the tree and I was working with a 71 year old guy , who still show's them young guys up. I just met him and did not know he didn't hear that well . I cut into the tree and knew I needed a wedge , I pulled out and cut one out of a stump beside us and slid the saw back in and put the wedge in and started to cut more. When I had the tree ready to go but just a couple of spins with the saw I asked him to just push a little on the back side. He didn't hear me so I asked him to spin the saw over once or twice and I'd give it a little push from the back to get it going . He didn't pull the saw back away from the cut to get the chain to spin and I could see he didn't know what to do , and the wedge was in to far to hit with a rock at that point and the tree was already to go . I got nerves and just without thinking put my shoulder into it and dug in , the tree went over but I felt something in my back . I just found out the other day after going to four diff. doctors and five months later that I have a ruptured dice between c6-c7 . Been dealing with alot of pain going down my arm and have no feelings in two of my fingers . I was told I need them fused , been looking at how it's done on youtube ,and not cool
Lesson is" DON"T PUSH ON TREE WITH SHOULDER" You know the minute I did it, I could hear my dad say I told you not to do that . I wished he'd spoke up sooner. Some times when you think someone could get hurt you just react not thinking of how your going to pull though it.
Have any of you had back or neck injury's that needed dice replacement or fused ? and how did you make out ?
