My B7800 often stalls / engine stops while I'm moving, in gear, WITHOUT the PTO engaged. I had thought that the seat sensor was only for when the PTO was engaged, because it seemed to work that way at first when I bought the tractor (used). I had to replace the very worn seat (bought from Kubota dealer), and also replaced the broken seat sensor (tabs broke off), and the new seat doesn't really press down on that sensor. I can only really run the tractor if I put a wad of rags under the seat, which doesn't really work well. Without the wad, it usually just dies.

So 2 questions:

1) does the seat sensor need to be down even while only traveling without the PTO, and

2) if answer is yes, what's the best method to permanently fix that gap problem? Metal plate? Screw block of wood to bottom of chair? other ideas?

Thanks,
PCP

You should be able to have the engine running and leave the seat. If the tractor is moving without you in the seat the engine should die. Is there any adjustment on the switch? Is the seat completely mounted? I ask because the rod under my Le2501 seat came loose on one end causing the tractor to die intermittently.

Yes, I can leave the seat with the engine running, no problem.

My question is: is the engine automatically killed if the seat sensor is NOT engaged for NO PTO and the tractor is moving forward using the right forward foot pedal (the accelerator).

Hmmm... I seem to recall moving the tractor forward and backwards with me not in the seat while attaching implements. Of course that was just inching along.

in general, a seat sensor will shut off the engine when there is no pressure if it is in gear or the pto is engaged.

you can override the seat sensor by unplugging it, then jumping the female connection (put a wire connecting the two female sides of the plug). that will at least tell you if the plug is causing your issues.

i had to override the seat sensor on my MF 1540 because the seat would freeze in the winter and not detect any pressure.

I have the hst trans. when ever i use the pallet forks i have to stand up, maybe 3 times, so I can see the forks. Some day, fel camera.

The tractor continues to run and i can make fine adjustments to fork position but, if i as much as bump the side of the pedal with my boot, it's cuts out.

So on mine, you can't inch it.

It seems like you already know the answer to your issue. Fix the new seat so something activates the seat switch properly and more reliably than a ball of rags...

The answer to question 2 depends on your capabilities. You could probably duct tape a piece of wood to the seat bottom as proof of concept and move on from there after it proves successful.
