Hey guys. 1st time poster here.

I have a Foster brand 14k deck over trailer that had a HUGE rear ramp/gate. It was a full 8.5' wide and 6.5' Tall. The trailer towed just as hard empty, as it did with a 8,ooolb pickup on it.

I decided to make 2 smaller ramps that would flip over on the the beaver tail and make a completely flat deck when hauling empty or with smaller wheeled items. They will also be able to be pinned straight up for longer things.

I have made the ramps and got them mounted. Had local metal supplier shear some 1/8 sheet to make some triangles for the side then shear 1/8 diamond plate sheet for the "top"(when folded on to trailer). I used 3/16" angle as the "rungs". Bought some prefabbed hinge mounts and pivots and some 1.5" soild stock for my pins

I have springs to help take some of the weight when picking the ramps from off the ground, I am trying to figure out how/where to add springs to help when picking them off the beaver tail. I am guessing each ramp to weigh in at about 250lbs

Any ideas?

That's a tough one. Time to walk trailer lots. This is one of the main reason I got rid of my trailers with gates and now will only own slide in ramps.

I bought some of the pieces of this kit.
I bought 6 of the mounts for the trailer, 6 of the "links" to the the ramp to the trailer and I bought 4 springs
Those springs work well for lifting the ramp from the ground, not I just need springs to assist lifting it off the deck

Well. I got to use my ramps today. I still need to put in a set of springs to assist picking the ramps off the trailer

With that "link" necessary for the ramps to fold flat on the trlr., that's going to be a tough one! You did a real nice job on those ramps! It looked like the old ramp had a cyl. That must mean that there's a elec/hyd. pump already on the trlr. What about a shorter cly. under the dovetail rotating a T bar up in the middle to catch both ramps. (or something like that) Think of a scaled down 1 ton dump hoist. Even if you could get 1/4 or 1/3 the way up it would help a lot.
Nice looking p.u. That's Ford's best looking body era IMHO. Welcome to TBN!

All the hydraulics are not removed. Had hydraulic jack too. This week if I have time, I will toy with the ramp springs
