It is nearly certain that I'll be moving and I'll only be able to use a very small mower at the new place. I have a 330 hour, meticulously maintained (and documented maintenance) BX2200 with the loader, 60" deck and the Kubota rear bagger.

Can anyone recommend a good way to determine a fair price and a good outlet (TBN Classifieds?) to sell it? Should I trade it in on the smallest Kubota lawn mower at the dealership? Is it hard to sell used tractors "by owner"?

Thanks for any pointers folks!

I have no idea but it is good that we have resources like this to check things out. Best of luck with the downsizing I will be doing similar stuff in about a year.

I would check tractorhouse to determine price and then try selling on your own ebay or tractorhouse. If you trade in they will rip you off

If you are in a super rush, it can be a bit sketchy. However, with patience, Craigs will do you just fine and it is free. TractorHouse will also list it for you for free. Speaking of TractorHouse, it is a good place to get comparable pricing, just be aware that many of the prices you see are inflated and the seller never receives that large of a settlement.

Craigslist, for sure. No cost. No commission. Ebay and paypal eat you alive with fees, just saying. There is a good solid market for used BXs if you don't try and get an absurdly high price for it. Reasonably priced? They generate a lot of interest and sell in pretty quick fashion. You've got the loader and the deck. Good. It'll sell.

Thanks all! That will be a helpful guide. I definitely want to price it for a quick sale if this goes down, so I'll try to interpolate the numbers there and then discount a bit to offset the guys that probably ask too high. Thanks again!

I just sold my BX23 - using Craigslist.

I had the same problem: trying to determine pricing. The number of BX23's out there for sale are few and far between - and most of them had far less hours than mine did (616 hours).

Here's what I did : I searched Craigslist nationwide by using sites like allofcraigs.com - Search ALL of Craigslist - and I found a few tractors for sale there. I also searched Ebay and places like Tractorhouse to see what was for sale. If you do all of that - plus search around on some of the other tractor sites you should be able to come up with 4 or 5 tractors like yours for sale. From what I have seen - 200-300 hours is pretty much normal time for a tractor of that vintage. If you've got all the maintainence documented then that will definitely help.

Just so you have some idea of how the deal might go down - here's how it worked out for me. My BX had loaded tires, a toothbar, 12" bucket on the backhoe - and a clamp on thumb on the backhoe (barely used). I priced it at $10,750. I also had the factory Workshop Manual, a 60" rear blade, and a 24" bucket for the backhoe - all of which I was going to sell separately. The dealer offered me $6500 on the trade in. When the Craigslist ad went in -I had four emails within a couple of hours. That was on a Sunday night. I had three people look at the tractor on Monday and Tuesday - and 3 more people who were offering my $7k to $8500 sight unseen. One of my initial responses was from a guy who was coming down from New Brunswick (I'm in MA) - and he sounded like the most promising one because he sounded serious. He showed up on Wed, looked the tractor over thoroughly - and offered $10k - with the rear blade, manual - and 24" bucket. I figured I would probably end up with about another $600 or so from selling those three separately.

So - my suggestion would be - do your research and find what you think is a good price point - and go a little higher (like $500 to $1000), clean up the tractor and make sure everything works. Get all of your records, etc. The put it on Craigslist. And take some good pictures - I had the Craigslist max of four - plus a link to a bunch more on my Photobucket site. So people could get a complete picture of what the tractor looked like.

Photos make the sale online with other items, I suppose tractors would be the same eh? Thanks much! Good idea adding a link to addl photos. I'm going to miss it. I have had it 11 years! A great little machine that I've put my heart in to maintaining. Including joining my first Internet forum. TBN!!!

Contrary to what one person said that you'll get robbed by trading it in. Not always so. I've bought 13 Kubotas in 9 years. Still have 5, sold one privately, currently have one for sale privately and traded the rest to Barlows and rec'd a fair trade in price. Try the Craigs list sale and also get a trade price from a couple of dealers toward what you'll need/want to buy and see for yourself which one works best. Anyone on Craigs list that won't give you their name and a phone number to contact them just ignore. Also the guy on a ship/foreign country that will send you money just ignore.
