Downsizing isn't here yet but I'm seeing it on the horizon. We're starting to get old enough that we're having trouble keeping up with the 36 Acres that we have and keeping up with the house. There's some painting that needs to be done and I just don't have the ability to do that stuff anymore. As long as I'm riding on the mower tractor UTV Etc I'm okay but when I get on my feet and then try to do stuff the knees don't cooperate well at all anymore.

Recently fuel was added to the downsizing equation by people that are interested in our place. Not immediately, but probably five years down the road. But it's starting the process thinking about what I do with certain things.

In particular, being an ex bow hunter of about thirty years I have several trophies. Elk deer even a full size bear. Where do I go with that type of thing? I have one daughter and she has no interest in that type of thing oh, so passing it to other family members there's just no one that's interested in it.

You may want to see if there are any environmental education centers, zoos or county/state parks in the area that would be interested in using them as educational display items. The upside would potentially being a tax write-off depending on how you value them.

Probably 95% of the mounts at the natural resource education center I manage have been donated by folks from the local community. Heck, you may want to call the wildlife permitting division of you state's department of natural resources as they may have some outlets......full mount bears can be a difficult item to come by for facilities like my my own.

We came to the conclusion years ago, that most of the stuff we have, has no value to our kids. There might be a thing or two the kids would want after we are gone but we just do not have anything they would want.

This is a problem we are going to have with my parents. Most of the stuff they have, we do not want, but there are a few large pieces of furniture made by my grandfather, that I do not want to get rid of but we have no place for the pieces. ☹️ We have three long term plans for the future. We don't know which way we will go, but two of these plans would be downsizing and would really restrict what furniture we could keep. Tough choices.

Later,
Dan

I assume you are hunting on your own property; if I am correct, you may be able to sale with the provision that you have exclusive hunting rights to the property for the rest of your life. Make sure to put any agreement in writing during the sale. If the buyers are not hunters they may be happy to save a few dollars to give you the option to continue to hunt on the property.
