Our 17 HP DR does a better job of bush hogging after buying the heavy duty blade. I is amazing what it will cut as it gives you a butt whipping like Dad never did.

As a follow up to this original discussion that I believe is just as relevant as in 2005:

I have recently replaced a 2000 17hp 26" DR Brush Mower with a 13hp BCS 852 walk-behind tractor coupled with a 32" Zanon brush mower. I've had 10 years of experience with the DR on our mountain property. It is a good machine but there are some disadvantages, mainly on steeper terrain. The full post is at:

We have the 17 HP version that must be about 10 years old now. We do not use it much but it is not for sale. The 30" bush hog with the heavy blade will eat 3' trees but it is not as easy as setting in a tractor seat. :) The 42" mower deck is more work than a riding mower as well but does not get stuck as fast in the wet season. It is great for cutting electric fence paths where the big tractor does not fit or you have thorn trees, etc.
