I bought a JD 2155 tractor last year. and only have used the 3pt hitch a few times. Well today I hooked up a 3pt post hole digger too it and it has alot of side to side play to it. The tractor is cat2 post digger cat1.
I dont see any sway bar control on it. Although it looks as if I would put cat 2 pins towards the inside it would take some of the slack out of the draft links so they would be closser too the sway blocks. Just too much side to side movement!
I hope that makes sense! maybe I am missing some thing on this used tractor or may be its normal I just dont know

I also have telescoping arms are those arms just for cat2?

I'm going to do this from memory. Yes the draft arms are cat. 2. There are bushings available to take the play out of the pins not the side to side play. New tractros have check chains or stabilizers to prevent side to side play. That being said. I belive depending on which way your sway blocks are set you may be able to unbolt them and reinstall them on edge to take up more of the side to side play. if I remember right they have threaded holes on the flat side so that you can bolt that up to the hitch plate. Thats how I remember it anyway. Hope that helps.

You will have a pair of sway blocks located just to the outside of where the pto shaft is located on the back of the tractor. They can be mounted in a CAT I or CAT II friendly position. Sounds like they're in CAT I position. Remove 2 bolts (per block) and rotate them 90 degrees, re-bolt, and they will hold the draft arms relatively stabile in CAT II position.

How much play from the arms between the blocks is their suppose to be? I reconfigured the lifting pins on the implement to face in and it tightend it up to about an inch of playmay be 1-2in is better estimate!

In a perfect world, there is only marginal clearance between the rub blocks and the draft arms when attached to an implement. That's how Deere designed those 3-point systems to operate without any stabilizer bars/check chains/ect. With the hitch pins turned INWARD, you have to allow enough clearance to be able to attach the PHD. I'd say your "improvised" way of attaching will work just fine. I wouldn't want an implement such as a bush hog, or a tiller attached that way.....

your right. I totally agree! I found in a manual where it says that the telescoping arms are for cat2 only. The other arms are reversable having a bend in them to accomidaate for cat1 and cat2. Instead of buying or finding used arms I thought I would just get buy with what I have, Although I wish I new where to pick up a set of arms?:D
