Ferguson to35
Howdy, I'm new here and recently bought a Ferguson TO35 and have some noob questions regarding the draft control. First the tractor has two levers on top of the transmission, one that raises and lowers the 3point and the other operates the front loader. Now my questions, what position is the 3 point lever under the seat supposed to be in when using the draft control? Second, the tractor came with a bush hog and the previous owner was operating it with the draft control in the raised position controlling the height with the 3point lever under the seat. I have an operators manual and it describes the draft control and its purpose but I can find no reference to the lever under the seat. Thanks for your help. Steve

Ferguson's are great small tractors but there is some variation within each model. I think you need to post multiple pictures to receive a satisfactory answer. One problem with old tractors is that so many have been owner-modified at some time.

For bush hogging the Draft Control should be in neutral or "0" and you would control 'hog lift with the Three Point Htich hydraulic control.

Draft Control is used for ground engaging tasks, most often plow work and less often Box Blade work, other ground engaging tasks infrequently.

You might like the book HARRY FERGUSON, INVENTOR & PIONEER, out-of-print but available on Amazon and eBay.

Once you figure out the levers and their actions, then consider this. My Kubota M6040 has draft control. I've used draft control with my bottom plow but it was of no help what-so-ever. My conditions are not - varying soil conditions and trying to maintain consistent plowing & travel speed. Draft control is a feature that senses varying loads/pull on ground engagement implements and raises/lowers the implement slightly to maintain a constant pull.

My concern is the large, hidden rocks and tree roots. Draft control is of no help in this area.

Check to see if the lever under the seat will vary the up/down speed on the 3-point hitch.

Once you find the draft control lever- I would set to zero.

BTW - Welcome to TBN and if you have any rain to spare - could you send it over here. We are well beyond parched.

Thanks for the replies, that's how I've been running it but wanted to make sure I wasn't screwing something up. I haven't got anything except the bush hog yet but plan to in the future. I'll look for the book and as rain goes, its raining now but its the first we've had in a couple of months. Thanks again
