Good man, Richh! Bird has already had carpal tunnel surgery and I don't want it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Technically, draft control can be useful for any implement that accomplishes it's task by being pulled through the soil. A tiller doesn't fit this description. It works off the PTO. If anything, the tiller will push the tractor, so the draft control would be doing absolutely nothing. Plows, rippers, scarifiers, middle busters, etc. all can benefit from draft control, but it's usually plowing that it's primarily used for.

Thanks Mark! I cant belive how much info is on this site. GO look in the archives!!!! STOP MORE SURGERY. Well from all the reading that I did I figered that the draft would be a no go. Sure would be nice if there were some type of devise that would do the same thing a draft dose only work with a tiller or brush hog ect.

What criteria would the device use to raise the impelement? Or, under what conditions would you want it to automatically raise?

BTW, thanks for looking! That's one of the things I believe we lost going to the new forum - most folks don't know the archives are even there - and there's a lot of info there that doesn't go "stale".

When you till or mow on rough ground.

Richh, I see - you want radar depth control. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

For tilling on rough ground, I set the skid shoes on the tiller to the depth I want, then put the postion control all the way down in float position.

For mowing, if you don't have a mower than has wheels on the front and back, you've got a problem. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

You probably do not need to pay for an option for Draft Control. It comes standard on most Kubota models where it will actually be needed. The ONLY purpose of draft control is to keep from stalling the tractor and having the wheels spin because the implement is pulling too hard and the tractor can't pull it, so a signal is sent to raise the implement until it can be pulled. Works on all ground engaging implements including a tiller IF it pulls hard enough but is more applicable to scarfiers, plows, and any ground engaging implements. The action is caused (normally) by the force on the top link which causes a feedback to raise the 3 point. The amount is regulated by the draft lever. The biggest advantage is in loose soils that turn to clay in certain areas and this keeps from having the wheels on the tractor slip from lack of traction to pull the implement.

Does not work on mowers; however, the nice position control on most Kubota models coupled with the correct setting of the rear wheel on Brush Hog type mowers works perfect. The play in the top link flexes and allows the mower to ride up and down on the contour of he land and keeps a consistant cut.

I'm actually working on a sonar version now. It's superior to radar in that it also drives moles away. I'll let you know when prototype testing is complete. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
