Hello,

I have a new 4225h. I've not moved it since it was delivered. I'm getting ready to use it for the very first time. (Brush Hogging)

Today I pulled it out of the pole barn. It felt like the brakes were on. Of course with throttle I was able to overcome what seems like some resistance. Is this normal for a Branson hydro?

My previous tractor was a Bobcat ct230. We also have a Mahindra 2516. Both are hydros. They seem looser. When I take my foot off the go pedal they roll just a bit before slowing and stopping. The Branson comes to a firm, immediate stop with my foot off the pedal.

Normal? Your thoughts and experiences please.

Thanks.

Have someone engage and release the parking brake while you check the linkages and cables to see if they're moving. I believe on some models, they uses cables on the parking brake and sometimes moisture gets in it and can cause it to get stuck. Check if you have free play on the brake pedals before actually engage the brake.

Also, if this happens on an hard surface, make sure you have the 4WD Disengaged. Having the 4WD engaged on hard surfaces, can cause some binding. But you're not new to tractors, you're probably aware of that.

Other than that, I can't really comment as I'm not really familiar with HST transmissions nor how they react.

No, there's nothing wrong. My 3725 did (and still does) the exact same thing. If you're rolling along and abruptly lift your food quickly all the way off the pedal, it will be like someone threw on all the brakes and an arrestor hook grabbed the safety line on an aircraft carrier deck jet landing. You'll get used to it. Just don't do like I did the first time I disengaged my cruise control, I didn't have my food on the pedal at all, and it dang near face planted me into the front windshield. Lol.

You learn to just slowly raise your food off the forward (or reverse) pedal. It does come in a little handy if you ever have to stop fast though, like if your dog (or in my case, neighbor's dog) darts out in front of your tractor as you're going by.

Double check that the parking brake is not on. The brake light should be lit on the dash if it is. The Branson HST does slow the tractor a lot when you let off the pedal on level ground or up hill. Not so much going down a steep hill.

If you try to take off with the parking brake on, the HST will be howling at you the whole time, and you won't really be able to move the tractor at all.
