It's been several years since I've been around tractors. But I recall an attachment for drawbars that prevented them from rotating. It attached to the side of the support arm on one end and L-shaped at the other end, it inserted into one of the holes in the drawbar. Looking at new drawbars today, I see nothing that will keep the drawbar flat and prevent it from trying to rotate when you pull something with it. Can someone educate me on what changed?

There are several types of drawbar locks available. They do exactly what you describe. They will probably cost $10-$25 depending on their quality.
An example of one that recently sold on ebay: ebay- drawbar lock

I had this one built. Bought all the materials from TSC.
