I found these dimensions on an earlier thread and wanted to know if anyone with a 71xx series Cub could verify that they are correct for that tractor series. I have a 7194 and do not want to pay $196 for a $20 piece of cold rolled steel with three holes drilled in it. I will build it myself.

Overall length: 19-3/16"
Overall width: 1-15/16"
Overall height: 3/4"

For these measurements, refer to the attachment:

From "tractor end" to center of hole "A": 4-1/16"
From center of hole "A" to center of hole "B": 9-15/16"
From center of hole "A" to center of hole "C": 14"

Diameter of holes "A" and "B": 15/16"
Diameter of hole "C": 1-1/16"

I will measure the receiver when I get a chance but am looking for some corroboration that this will work.

Duke

Duke, I have a 7234 which I thought was a slightly larger frame than the 19HP model but the drawbars must be almost identical. I'm not sure where you got your measurements but they are very, very, close to the size of the bar, Thickness, Width, and Length, and the spacing on the holes. The only thing that is different are holes A and B are what looks like 11/16" diameter and C is 3/4". I just went down and measured the holes with an inside caliper so they are pretty close. I have a 2" ball in hole C and the shaft on the ball is exactly 3/4". (I think it was a UHAUL ball but I may be wrong.) I can't lay my hand on my parts book but if I can I will see if I can add anything to your research. Holes A and B take a standard (?) pin that uses a Jesus Clip to hold it.

Thanks, Mac. I did some measurement on my receiver on the tractor and the two smaller holes are as you say, 11/16". The should take a 5/8" pin. Hole C is for a ball. I measured the one on my truck and it had a 1" thread. Seemed a bit large but it is as large a hitch as I can put on the truck so maybe it is the HD model. I sized the hole at 1-1/6 to give some clearance for the ball stud. I appreciate you getting back with me on this one. I am trying to get the thing drilled today so it will be finished.

Thanks again.

Duke, I drilled my drawbar pretty easily with a 3/4" hole saw in my drill press. I added a 3/4" hole in the opposite end so I can keep a 2-5/6" ball on for moving a trailer around. A machine shop wanted $50 to drill it. I picked up a drill bit for about $5 on clearance and kept it well oiled. I now have the hole drilled and a drill bit to work on other items.

Good theory drilling yourself with drill press. Wish I had one. Have been planning to get one once I am settled in the new house, but can't justify it . . . with she who seems to keep an eye on the new equipment in a small garage . . . on something as small as a draw bar, i.e., drilling three holes in a small piece of bar steel. It is sort of funny because my wife and I just got married a year and a half ago and in that time we have consolidated two houses into a third. Since all of my stuff was packed and stored I have been able to sort of pull out a few new pieces that "have been packed away since I put my stuff in storage" if you know what I mean. Well, we have gone through all of the boxes left unpacked and sorted through stuff so I can't get away with that one anymore. It worked for a bench grinder and a set of cordless power tools and some work lights, but that well is pretty dry now.

As for the drawbar, I am probably going to be buying the drill bits, but may end up using them to bribe one of my buddies to drill the holes. Sort of an unsolicited gratuity for helping me out. Either way, much cheaper than the $196 Cub Cadet wants for a new drawbar or $50 for a machine shop to do it. And this way, since I bought the bits, I am probably going to be able to revisit that source next time I need something done that I can't do . . . which aint that much.

Actually, not being able to drill a couple of holes is sort of an inconvenience that is quiet irritating and due to be remedied in the near future, just not in the time that I need to have it done. Can't pull the Christmas hay wagon (dual axle utility trailer with straw bales, Christmas lights and a few family and friends) this weekend to see the holiday lights without the drawbar and hitch ball.

Since you have all your boxes empty, now it's time to start bringing home the stuff you have stored over at {choose} (brother, sister, boss's, friends, etc) house. That's where you left your drill press isn't it?

As a matter of fact, I do remember loaning my table saw to a buddy before we moved. Perhaps I should get it back. It was brand new and had never been used. I think there was a drill press in the same box. Thanks for reminding me. :D
