Bought tractor used few years back...didn't have drawbar or the associated pins. Not surprising, since I had an M7040 in Texas and removed the drawbar, kind of in the way for some of my activities....and I never even used it once. Same with this tractor, using 3pt implements, haven't missed the drawbar......but now have a need coming up.

Want to pull a 15' batwing. Internet search comes up with a lot of different drawbars...but cannot find one specifically for an M7040. I haven't measured holes.

What fits? Where can I buy one without going to the dealer (expensive). Am I just going to have to measure holes and match it up? AND do I want the bar to swing pulling a batwing?

An option I guess is to get something to pull with the 3pt arms...but I don't prefer that...I think. Am I right or is there a reason I should consider that?

I've and M7040 that was used to pull a Woods 180. I'm back in MD right now and it is in TN. I'll take some pics of how it's set up when I get back either late next week or the following Monday.

Pulling with a 3 pt bar is certainly convenient with its adjustable height and ease of hookup. I can't speak for the larger M's but I've busted more than one stabilizer arm pulling heavy loads with my B and L series tractors. The old turnbuckle style was the worst. I suppose it depends on how much side pressure the batwing produces.

My draw bar was broken on the 3910 when I bought it (used). I removed the remnants and brackets after pricing a new one and trying to determine WHICH one to get. Seems Ford used 3-4 different ones. They're too expensive to buy and ship to just find out if it fits or not. I use my 3pt receiver hitch without a ball as a draw bar. Probably don't need it but I made a bushing for it so I don't wreck the hole for the ball. (I've got a couple of spare straight ball mounts.) And I've never sheared the 5/8" pin that retains the ball mount. But, I've never tried pulling a batwing--Just an old Case 8-gang disk. :)

Oh, and I use a HF quick hitch and turn buckle stabilizers too. :confused3:

Appreciate that....seems there isn't just ONE option for doing this. BUT pulling a batwing thru a brushed up field with the many undulations you can encounter....could put unknown stress on things.

It will be best to use a draw bar due to the pto shaft. If you or someone else forgot and accidentally raise the arms on the drawbar your going to have some bad issues.

That is a very valid statement, and hadn't occurred to me.

So.... here is a pic of the OEM drawbar off my 2009 M6040. Kubota says the drawbars on the M5040, M6040 & M7040 are all the same.View attachment 478221

Now for some measurement data--

the bar dimensions - 24 1/8" OAL, 2.5" width, 1.25" thick

Starting with the largest hole(implement pin attachment hole) on the far left

First hole - 1 3/8" diameter - 1.5" from end of bar to center of hole

Second hole - 3/4" diameter - 7 3/4" from end of bar to center of hole

Third hole - 3/4" diameter - 9 3/4" from end of bar to center of hole

Forth hole - 1" diameter - 20 7/8" from end of bar to center of hole

Fifth hole - 1" diameter - 22 3/4" from end of bar to center of hole

The first large hole is for attaching the implement to the dawbar, hole #2 & #3 are just random attachment points and #4 & #5 are alternate locations for attaching the drawbar to the tractor.

I don't keep the DB attached - it sticks out far enough to interfere with some of the 3-point attachments.

It would seem that the width, thickness and drawbar attachment hole(s) diameter would be somewhat critical. The length and remaining three holes would be specific as to how you intend to use the drawbar.

I've got a feeling that you are gonna probably have to go get one from the dealership...
Those are pretty model specific and not as generic as we would like...
If you think about it probably not a lot of demand for extra draw bars that I can think of...
When I bush hog I always take my draw bar off since I am using a 3 point mount hog..
Couple months ago when my salesman delivered my Workmaster he saw the draw bar for my 4610SU and commented on how expensive they were...
Hope you have luck in finding a generic unit...
You could probably have one made via a machine shop but I would imagine the cost would be prohibitive...

Get the proper drawbar.

No you don't want it to swing.

No you don't want to use a 3pt cross bar with PTO pull type. You are asking for your PTO shaft to get bent or broken
