I was wondering what the maximum drawbar load is for the 4100? How much weight can one drag? I would also like to know the maximum trailer loading weight.

Thanks

59 People look at this post and nobody can come up with an answer?

For comparison purposes the Kubota BX2200 manual reports a Maximum drawbar load of 550 lbs measured at the drawbar and a Maximum loading weight for a trailer (excluding the weight of the trailer) of 1,765 lbs measured at the center of the trailer wheel.

This is all accademic now, what I want to do is drag some fallen trees out of my woods. I got some great feedback when I asked how to go about this safely. Please see the Tractor Projects thread.

Would have answered sooner but I got involved in a major learning and web surfing experence about air compressers on the Impact and Torque Wrench thread in the Attachments section last night. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Got a JD Governmental Bid Specicication Booklet from my dealer. For the 4100 it shows:
"Drawbar Tongue Weight Capacity 570 lb."
"Towing and Stopping Capacity...Equal to the ballasted weight of the tractor with the operator"
"Weight (includes fuel, oil, coolant and R1 tires) 1517 lb./1565 lb."
I assume the 1517 lb. is gear and 1565 lb. is HST but it is not clearly marked in the booklet.
Hope that helps.

Keithcom,

Thats very interesting information. I wonder if the weight of the tractor/ballast/FEL?/operator etc is the towing capacity of the tractor is rule of thumb that works for all tractors? So if I'm gaining weight I'm increasing the capabilities of my tractor! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks...

Keith,

Thank you for that information. The specs on tractors are difficult to compare. Someone mentioned Nebraska tractor tests. Perhaps they would enable me to compare apples to apples.

Personally I don't worry about drawbar capacity as far as towing weight. The tongue weight is the downforce you can put on the drawbar but the towing capacity is different. I'll spin my tires in 4wd and lose traction WAY before I'll have to worrry about pulling more than the drawbar can take. Bottom line is if I can pull it without losing traction it's under the capacity! (Sorry if this isn't an exact answer - just been my experience and I've pulled some pretty big rocks and tree's)

Frank,
I think you're out of luck with the Nebraska tests. As far as I know they don't test compacts from what I could see.

I think max towing capacity is an issue that concerns more than just if the tractor can move the load or not. What about safety? Consider a 12,000 lb or larger trailer. Almost anything can still roll it around on level pavement, but what happens on an off-road trail with grades, tilts, and some bumps? Maybe the front wheels of the tractor bounce occasionally off the ground and you lose steering stability. Maybe the weight and inertia of the trailer pushes you down a hill and the brakes can't stop as fast as you want. Maybe during a turn, the trailer pushes or pulls on the tractor in such a way that it wants to roll over?
