I bought a Gearmore TNT Kit for my Kubota L48. It came with zero instructions. A diagram of the control valvel shows the Pressure, Tank, and Pressure Beyond Ports. That is it for instructions.

Anyway...I don't need Power Beyond as my 3-point Hitch has its own hydraulic circuit. I assume I am supposed to plug the Power Beyond Port since I don't need it. My concern is that when I plug the PBP and put 100psi air into the Pressure Port, the air does not exit the Tank Port as I thought it should. The Control Levers are all in their neutral positions. I thought the fluid was suppose to exit the valve assembly with no resistance when the valves are neutral. Is 100psi not enough? Am I not supposed to plug the PBP?

Any help is appreciated. I am new to all of this (2 months of tractor ownership).

Thanks,
Mike

This is where we're gonna miss Madreferee the most. I'll give it a shot. The power beyond port is used if you are going use hydraulic flow beyond this valve and you have to get a special plug to put in this port that allows fluid to pass to the next valve in sequence. But since you say you don't need this then I think you just have to connect your return line to the tank port and are good to go. From everything I've learned (tip of the iceberg) is that the power beyond insert blocks the tank return and forces fluid on to the last circuit that has the return to tank port. In essence the power beyond insert makes an open center valve a closed center valve if that makes sense. If someone else can explain simpler than I ,as I don't always have the knack for explaining myself very well, please jump in. Any hydraulic supplier should be able to answer your question as well.

? Well, the PowerBeyond circuit does not have levers, it is a constant flow of hydraulic fluid.

I have a feeling what you are calling "powerbeyond" is just a rear remote, that will operate your TnT cylinders just fine.

Can you post a picture of the rear of the machine?

Mike:

I don't think just plugging the power beyond port will work if the TNT valve is configured for power beyond because, in that case, the power beyond circuit is the only way for the fluid to exit when the valves are in neutral. You were smart to test the valve with air first because had you connected it to the pump it would have blocked all flow from the pump. That would have deadheaded the pump unless there were a relief valve in the circuit.

We need to know the configuration of the hydraulic circuit on the tractor that you are going to use to power the TNT to give you the right answer. If you are splicing into a circuit that is configured for power beyond your TNT valve should be configured for power beyond (as it apparently is). But if you are splicing into a circuit that is not configured for power beyond, then the power beyond in your valve needs to be deactivated. Most valves that provide power beyond are convertible: that is, power beyond is activated by inserting a threaded plug into the valve. The power beyond plug is sometimes a simple pipe plug that is screwed into a threaded hole inside the valve, and sometimes it is a plug with male and female threads that screws into the power beyond port and then the power beyond hose is attached to the plug.

Give us some more info and we will put our heads together. They will not equal MadReferee's knowledge, but they might help.

Farmerford is right (on both points).

Here is some good night stand or throne reading for you army hydraulics manual It will get you up to speed on hydraulic basics.

We should really start a tbn "wiki" on hydraulics.

Thanks for the link to the manual. I've been trying to get a handle on the tractor hydraulic stuff. Now I may be able (once I read this in my private library), I might be able ask questions with at least some understanding.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the help. I looked inside the PBP and there is a Socket Button Head Screw that I am going to remove. This should deactivate the PBP and give the fluid a route back to the tank. I will let you know if it doesn't work as I think it should.

Thanks again,
Mike

That plug is in the passage that connects the high pressure (supply) gallery to the low pressure (return) gallery. It is what keeps the high pressure fluid from returning to tank and makes it, instead, flow through the power beyond port.

When you remove the power beyond plug, fluid from the pump that flows through the high pressure (supply) gallery in the valve will be able to return to the reservoir through the low pressure gallery that connects to the "tank" port. Therefore, you will want to connect the "tank" port to either the reservoir or a downstream open center valve that itself connects to the reservoir and put a cap on the power beyond port.

All is okay now. It wasn't a Socket Button Head Screw as I thought but was indeed a Pipe Plug. The valve now works as I thooght it should. You guys gave me the help I needed. I'm dissappointed the guy that sold me the kit couldn't give me any help.

Regards,
Mike

I think that's par for the course. When you're dealing with toxic fluids at pressures that can puncture skin and using them to lift things easily able to crush a person I've found that corporations are rarely willing to offer advice

Luckily these guys are here to help. And I'm here to leach information off your questions so make sure you document your installation well :D
