I got hit in the head pretty good this week doing some work in the woods. Never saw the branch coming. I now have a wild hair that thinks I may need a tractor with a cab. I think a cab would hinder me at times but I do think safety could be better with one. I have researched the 2555 and the 3550. The 3550 is beautiful but may be too heavy to hire out with doing landscaping. I also have all 6' implements. The 2555 is not as nice interior in the cab but not bad either. I like the lower rev of the 2555 and would think it would out torque the 3550 due to lower rpm. I did notice that the 3550 is rated at an rpm lower than full throttle. Either way I know I am dreaming but wondering what would be a good trade number. My 2538 has 190 hours on it and I do enjoy this tractor. Any ideas?

I think that the 3550 is a far nicer/bigger tractor/heavier tractor [ 35.5" front tires ]... but it could use a few more hp. And the 2555 is a lighter/not quite as nice/turbo [ 32" front tires ] ... and has more power. I have both, and if you want to move stuff.... the 35 series is a little better. But if you want PTO hp, then the 2555 is a little better. Both are fine tractors .. Life is short, have at it once you decide which one.... :) Before you buy a cab'd tractor and take it out in the woods.... price the cost of replacement glass doors, front/back glass, and an ample supply of duck tape to hold the cab pieces together to kind of make it look like when you bought it...

I guess you would be the guy to talk to having both. The 3550 is a great looking tractor but....More to tow, too wide for my implements, too heavy for customers lawns etc. I do like that tractor. I do like the fit and finish and the refined cab...a lot. The 2555 makes way more sense. Who invented the bucket lever that points away from the operator on that thing

You can turn the lever around 180, takes about ten minutes. I did that and raised the seat about 3" right after I bought it. There is a post in the owner/operator section that I did when I modified it. Sounds like you are leaning 2555.... as usual, let your groin area make the final decision.... :)

After looking at the 3550 I am not sure I have enough skin left to close my eyes :) I have a 10k trailer that I also haul a 2500 pound roller on with my tractor. I think the 3550 would overload me and put me to a larger truck. The width does me in on my 6' tiller and box blade and two rakes. I do have a 66 inch snow blower so that is about the only thing that would work. Inside the cab is there a really big difference between the two? My 2538 is a workhorse with no luxury. I think the 2555 with cab is a pretty good step up but really trying to justify the 3550

Did I mention I love the sound of a nice turbo? :) Had to get that in there also

I have a fiberglass canopy on my tractor and do forestry work with it. It shows lots of wear from branches and I do my best to keep it out of harms way. I have lots of aspen trees and they seem to dislike tractors in their neighborhood....I'd be a nervous wreck with a cab even though I'd love to have one. The aspens have decided, no cab for me... :)

I don't do a lot of woods work but once in a while. I mostly install stone driveways but do some landscaping and clearing. When that limb hit me it brought back memories of a time that a cab saved my life on the farm. Plus I could listen to led zepplin while getting paid

I've seen some nice "roll bar" type brush "cages" that guys have made and posted on this site. They attach to the ROPS in the back and to or near the loader attachment point on the frame (by your feet when sitting). It sounds like you are wanting a new machine but this would be an alternative. It would end up looking like a log skidder style cab.

Another thing, you can put a mid PTO kit on the 2555, I am running a 78" front blower on mine. The 2555 is a little easier to maneuver due to it being slight smaller/less weight. The cab is nice in the winter...... but I am an open station guy at heart.
