Drenching rains; TN65 won\'t start...help!!

Here in Pa we had drenching rains for 2 days while my TN65 sat outside. I tried starting it this afternoon and no starter click...the lights work, the battery is good.

Is there a starter switch or relay that might be shorted-out from all the moisture? Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

CL

This is way out of my area of knowledge, but the only time I've seen that happen was when I was either not sitting on the driver's seat, the clutch wasn't pressed in, or the shuttle was in gear. Any chance one of those sensor wires came loose? If they did, then the tractor might think that it's trying to be safe and refusing to start.

I would think that your ignition switch got some water in it. You can tear it down and dry it out or wait a day and see if it starts. I have left my TN outside for 3 winters and never had a problem with it starting either while it is pouring (and I have had to start it during a pour) or while it was under 18" of snow. Could have been something as simple as the way the wind blew the rain or something completely different like the pto lever not being all the way disengaged or something like that. Let us know what you find out though.

Well...I checked all the items you mentioned and to no avail.

I'm using a hair dryer to dry-out the wiring and such.

I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks..CL

Chuck,

Check the safety fuse. Mine went recently and had the exact symptoms you describe.

Great advice here, folks...and thank you.

I found out what the problem was: There are safety devices everywhere on this tractor...meaning that I had the forward/reverse shift lever on the left of the seat..."in gear". As soon as I moved the forward/reverse shift lever around, it started!! By the way...it's a synchro-shuttle 8F/8R.

Oh...the simple things one has to look at first!!!!

<font color="blue">Chuck,

Yea, most of the time its something simple...

Years ago, many years ago, I worked for Wang Laboratories, and they conducted some surveys, and found that a full 50% of the time that people called in to complain that their terminals (this was way before PC's, so we were using terminals on larger computers that actually had much less CPU or storage than your little PC on your desk does now <grin>... but I digress...) A full 50% of the times people called in to say their Terminal was broken or wouldn't work or come on, the problem was that it was unplugged!!! Half the time it was that simple... So yea, it pays to check the simple things first... there's a reason that they refer to those things as "checking the obvious" <grin>...
