Trying to decide between JD 1025R/2025R and the Kubota similar machines. Really like the drive over deck on the JD, and was telling the Kubota dealer that the auto connect PTO connector was a big selling point for the JD brand. Kubota dealer said they were having trouble with the reliability of the JD auto connect and he would stay away from it. Any truth to this statement?
Buying Advice Drive over decks on 1025R and 2025R, are they reliable?

Not that I have seen, when cared for correctly they work great. I see that there is now a solenoid activated version that unlatches the deck as well making it even easier to take on and off. Can't imagine the Kubota folks wouldn't brag up a Deere feature... good luck.

My X758 has a "drive over" mower deck. It is plenty sturdy enough. I like it but it does not have the auto connect feature. I didn't want it and never found it to be a problem to manually connect.
When they were first new on the market I read of several complaints about the auto connect feature. Everything had to be initially set up just perfect for it to work reliably every time. I imagine over time, JD may have made fined turned them to be more user friendly, don't really know. Having been very satisfied with my purchase, I have never looked back.

Can the tractor side of the newer auto-connect be used with a snowblower or does it need to be removed?
I asked this same question of a dealer in 2017 (about this time of year), I was told YES u have to remove the autoconnect hardware to use the front snowblower. Can't say if that is still true for 2018

all driver over mower decks are finicky, the Deere is no exception. An honest sales person will come clean about that.

Yeah, I can't see how they wouldn't be.
My widowed neighbor just bought a 1025R with this feature. She is completely non mechanical. The salesman told her that's what she needs. I'll report back this Fall on how she gets along.
I expect her to start with putting gasoline in the tank.

As with any deck, it needs to be setup propery from the dealer. The AutoConnect feature is very handy and works quite well. You'll hear complaints from folks who do have trouble with the PTO male and female sides not aligning properly. This is almost always attributed to improper or lack of setup. Once completed, there should rarely, if ever, be an issue.

Yes, it does get removed. It takes about 2-3 minutes to do. Removal of a handful of retainer pins and the PTO locking mechanism.
