Drive/PTO stops while brush hogging?

I got this Ford 6600 tractor a few days ago and was using it to brush hog today. I think at some point, after a couple hours, the tractor and the PTO stopped moving. Lowered the throttle, disengaged and re-engaged PTO, disengaged and re-engaged gear, and it went a few minutes longer, then I think the same thing happened. It was getting dark so I came home. I don't know too much about this tractor, particularly what the PTO and drive gears have in common.

Very interesting. You say you THINK the tractor and PTO stopped. Either of these generally is pretty obvious. I have no clue as to what might cause such a problem, but I don't think the pto and drive gears have anything in common on a 6600 except, of course, the power source. Someone will surely be able to figure it out.

Does this tractor by chance have a dual power transmission? The dual power has two hydraulic clutch packs, I believe supplied by the same pump circuit as the pto.

+1. Check your hydraulic oil level and filter condition.

Yes it does have the dual power transmission. I've been running it in low power. I'm actually not sure how to use a lot of this tractor. I bought it at an auction and am interested in selling it. It is way too big for my needs. So far I've had an offer for a Ford 4000 in supposedly good condition in exchange for this 6600 in questionable condition. But I would like to know if a situation like this might require a major repair. Looks like I'm going to have to get a manual and start working on the tractor. It seems to have limited resale value because of the lack of A/C in the cab.
