Drivers Ed and Sharing the Fun

I realize people are trying to be "helpful", but I doubt anyone is going to tell bigbull anything he hasn't thought of and I am guessing he has put more hours on a tractor)s) than many giving the advice.

I imagine I operate pretty much the same as bigbull with the exception I run cab units though I use to run open station.

I'm with 71 Bronco, maybe I just need to sell my stuff and sit on the porch.

Seat belt is fastened - Check
ROPS is up - Check
Ready for work - Check

Sorry I couldn't help myself...... :D

Seriously the seat belt is probably a good idea. I always belt up in the car. With the tractor at low speed and on level ground I just never thought much about the need for it.

ROPS up and seat belt on guy here. I pay attention to the little sticker on the dash that says "Safety - Live With It."

And, I don't do these things for me, but for my loved ones. I don't want them shoveling dirt on my face because of a tractor accident.
Hello Chatham County TBN member. We live over in Caswell County.

I sincerely hope that my concern for safety issues was not misconstrued by others. My comments certainly did not mean to step on anyone's toes. I will attempt to offer some explanation. In the mid 60's I caddied at Bays Mountain Golf Course in Church Hill, Tennessee. A friend of mine at the time, while mowing #7 fairway, somehow fell off the MF tractor he was using and the rear tire rolled over his leg and the fairway mower just barely scraped him. He escaped serious damage, although he had a bad limp years after the mishap. One more example. In the early 70's while working as a road deputy for Sullivan County Sheriff's Dept, I was at the local ER gathering additional info for an accident that I had previously worked. A young girl, perhaps 10-12 years of age was brought into the ER by ambulance from Hawkins County. She had somehow got her long hair caught in the PTO shaft of a tractor while working with her Family. I saw her, and my best description of her condition, was that she appeared scalped over most of her cranial area. The last that I heard of her condition was that she was driven by ambulance to Duke Hospital in NC for surgery. I was told that the specialists at Duke offered the best positive results, because of the severity of the young girl's condition. Just my thoughts, and thanks for listening. Have to go now and prepare Supper for my Family.

Why should I have all the fun driving the tractor around? I can share my toys just as well as the next guy.
Walked along with the wife while she learns how to drive and use the FEL.

It's odd she wasn't smiling in any of the pictures. I think she caught on to your Tom Sawyer trick.

It's amazing to me a thread about a man teaching his wife to use their tractor turns into a seatbelt debate. To the op thanks for sharing and good luck with teaching her the joys of owning and running a tractor. To the rest of the safty police I think It's a man's or a woman's decision to wear a seatbelt. I have ran tractors since I was very young 9 or so and have never worn a seatbelt. Most of the tractors did not have them. Amazing I am still alive. On the other hand I hold nothing against the people who wear seatbelts if it makes you feel safer by all means do so. But do not try a force your opinion on the rest of us.

Nobody is "forcing" their opinion on anybody. However, we have a lot of folks who are new to using tractors and similar equipment. Teach them the right (safe) thing to do...then it's their decision to use the safety gear or not use it.
I don't care how long you've been operating equipment. That, most assuredly, doesn't make you an expert...it means you've been lucky.

Anyway, when one frequents internet forums...it's pretty much a free for all as far as comments. Just ignore the ones you don't like.

Never claimed to be an expert. A lot of lucky farmers out there as well that are still living that don't wear seatbelts I guess. I just don't think a thread that I'm sure was intended to be fun should be taken over by safety police such as yourself. Again I say to the op here's to you and your wife may you have many more happy hours on your tractor.
