I almost got scammed at that dmv dot com site. Was researching my license renewal and fell into a site I thought was legitimate saying I could renew online. Got redirected to a driverslicenserenewal dot org that asked all the same questions I usually log in to FL DMV with. Put in all my personal info and clicked continue so they probably have that now. When it got to the payment page I got concerned and went to the official DMV page which stated I could not renew online and the renewal price is far less than the other site was attempting to charge. Don't know how much info they were able to collect when I advanced to the payment page. I didn't enter my credit card info and closed the page. I also removed the cookies the sites installed.

Email them and demand a refund, they cave Fast and rebate fees to your credit card. They’re doing same in Texas.

I caught on before entering my payment info. What I worry about is clicking continue after giving up all my other info. I entered full name, drivers license number, address, phone, and last 5 of SS before I clicked continue. That should be plenty for them to hijack me and steel my identity.

I did notify the FL DMV and suggest they have the attorney general try to close them down. I went back to the site and saw the small print saying it was a private company and they listed their contact location in Miami.

That is scary having them with all that info. At least they didn't say their contact location was Nigeria. On Facebook there are games people play that want info, such as name of first car, school you went to etc. Maybe they are fine but what a good way for a scammer to get past a couple firewalls on your account.

Thanks for the warning. I will heed it.

JD - I seriously doubt you have much to worry about. I can get that info about you thru one of the on line "find a person" sites. Your SS # - not so easy to get.

I am concerned that there is a fake license renewal site because I do use the WA DOL site.

Thanks for the notification - I will definitely keep an eye out for such fraudulent activities.

It would be my guess that legitimate state DOL sites start with the state abbreviation first - - Ex...... WADOL, FLDOL.

The Texas form you get, in the mail, actually warns about these bogus sites, you if you’re renewing online.
