I have a bad problem with my driveway washing out. I am having some gravel brought in this week and need a solution. I have thought about having a load of Rip wrap (I guess is how that is spelled) brought in to run along the sides of my driveway to slow the water down. I lose my gravel at the end of my driveway. As you can see in the picture it drops off at the end of my driveway and the gravel just washes down over the hill. I thought of putting rip wrap there to control that. I have thought about grates but doesn't seem to be an idea i want to try. Any solutions. I will post a lot of pictures for you'll.

Thanks

Well, you could black top it and that would take care of it but it is kinda expensive. You could use a slightly larger stone for your surface which would require more force to move and you would have less erosion. There are other ideas like running ditches to catch the water, putting in tiles to get the water off the driveway and such.

Blacktopping adds it's own problems -- cracking, potholes, shifting, melting, etc. You must get the water to move more side-to-side, the less time it spends on that slope, the slower it will go and the slower it goes, the less gravel washes. My friends in the mountains had the same problem and put several french drains in (at an angle) to move the water off of the driveway. It worked, they haven't had it wash now in 2 1/2 years.

I have property in the North Carolina mountains and have had the same problem. I use my Kubota B7800 with a loader to maintain my drives and have finally solved my problems. First, do not let water run on or across the drive. Slope the drive and use ditching with rip rap rock to channel water to whereever you can drain it away from your property. Whenever water must cross your drive, use a catch basin and appropriate size pipe to run it under the drive. I had to use two 12" pipes and two catch basins with 4" pipe on mine. Again, the whole key is to not let water run on or across your gravel.

Good luck!
