Hi all,

Either I read in the manual, or was told by the dealer, not to drive my 2300 backwards while mowing. So, every time I need to reverse, I dutifully disengage the mid PTO, back up, drop the RPMs, re-engage, revv it up, and resume my work. Does anybody know if this song and dance is really necessary for a few feet of backing up? Suppose I could RTFM, but you guys are much smarter than the manual when it comes to these things...

Thanks!

I have been mowing for a long time and never heard anything so nutty.

I can't come up with any technical reason for this recommendation. It seems like an awful lot of extra wear and tear on the equipment; especially the PTO clutch.

My only guess is that it is lawyer speak that translates into, "Don't sue us for accidentally backing over something you shouldn't with the mower."

I think this has much more to do with the lawyers than for technical reasons.

At least the GC2300 doesn't have the RIO switch, like my JD mower, for those that can't figure out to look behind them before backing up.

What would we do without the gov't protecting us from ourselves?

Get ready for a lot more of this.

I've never heard of it, never read of it, and don't do it. I back up all the time with the MMM engaged to manuver. Engaging the MMM even at low engine speeds is so violent I try to do it as little as possible.

With lawyers/politicians runnin' the show it's gonna get worse whether I'm ready or not.

But then again this is a tractor forum.

I have had my GC2300 for three years now, and am mowing 4 acres and have yet to disengage the MMM when backing up. So far no problems.
