:welcome:
To TBN from Alabama. What kind of post? If you are talking about "T-post," then yes, it is well worth the money. I would stay away from the spring loaded ones as I had a spring break to soon.

I have a Shaver HD-8, w/hydraulic tilt and love it. I drove over 300 posts with it, and sure saved a lot of work. Line posts were 5", and corners/gates 6". Took a bit longer to drive the corners, as I put them down 4'.

I could drive 20-24 posts a day by myself in the short daylight season. That's jockeying two tractors, then moving and aligning posts, etc. With two people that can work together, you could probably do 2-3 times as many.

I actually bought mine off ebay. It was used to build several small horse paddocks, then, never used again. Just taking up space, so they decided to sell it.

I'd advise if you get one, which ever brand, do get the hydraulic tilt. My former neighbor at the other place bought a manual tilt one, and was forever cranking it to adjust it.

A small torpedo level is the berries to get, and keep things plumb when setting up to drive, and check the post when driving. I plumbed the driver H beam first, then plumb the post to match.

You'll not drive post here when it's really dry. I put all of mine in starting in late fall, through winter. Great thing is..., no tamping..!!

Its the only way to "instal" T-posts - other than digging a hole. I installed a mile and a half of barb wire fence around the property - - around 665 T-posts. I have a home made post pounder - three foot chunk of 4" well pipe with a 30# billet of steel welded on one end. Its heavy and after installing posts with it all day you know you've done some work. However, it drives a T-post like pushing a hot knife thru butter.

I considered a hydraulic post driver attachment to my tractor. The problem is positioning - by the time I would get the tractor in exactly the correct position and get everything ready to go - - I would have already driven three posts with the manual driver and be heading to the fourth.

Another problem is location - - my property has valleys - draws - flat areas - seasonal marsh areas - and impossible cliffs. Where my fence line is - I can only get my tractor to 30-40% of it. The remainder is accessed by ATV and walking.

And besides - - a manual T-post driver will build magnificent arm muscles.

Yes I was not too exact about what I am looking to do I have about 30 acres of fence in need of replacing most of the posts were rotten.

They are half post three board oak fence boards I am looking to replace them with face posts and some round posts with fence wire. I am looking for a used or economy unit.

My father in law had one. He would operate it from tractor seat and I would check for level and adjust. A lot of ours would look good til the last couple hits then end up not level. Maybe hit rock or something? It was definitely nice to not have to tamp. Not sure how I'd use it by myself.

You may want to keep an eye on ebay, if you're not in a big hurry. That's where I got mine. Paid $800.00 for it. I just saw new fully hyd. model for $3999.00, so it was quite a savings..!!

I got a HD-10 for $1500, with both 3-point and skid steer mounts. Definitely watch Craigslist and eBay. When the project is done people don't know what to do with them.
