I have seen a number of used tractors that will meet my needs that are about 1000 miles away (e.g. NE). I won't buy a used tractor without personally inspecting it, but I will be traveling through these states in a bit and can stop by the stores and check them out. Then the problem will be getting the tractor from NE to idaho. I suppose I could rent an appropriate trailer but having the tractor shipped would be easier.

What is involved in having a tractor shipped from a dealer in NE to my house in Idaho? what would it cost (per lb and mile) for a 3000-4000 lb tractor?

thanks

Depending on the shipper I would figure a minimum of $1.25 per loaded mile up to $2.00. With rising fuel costs I would bet closer to the $2.00 right now.

A few folks have shipped from Washington to Alaska and one person shipped from Carver in N.Carolina to Finland....

I'm sure your going to set aside in the neighborhood of 2k. But for the cost of that why not shop around your place a little more and understand the cost may be a little more around you but they have shipped it there already.

I bought my tractor in MO and the dealer delivered it to So. Cal. (along with another load to another ranch) That cost me $2,000 exactly 1 year ago when gas was cheaper. I'm sure he'd charge more today! Especially if it's the only thing on the truck. On the otherhand...
I had no way to get it here and it sure beats renting a trailer and stuff, Motel and food, taking time off work (lost pay or vacation) to do it yourself. Then you've got to dodge all the crazies on the road. It was there responsibility until it hit my property. And with gas prices the way they are now and everything else being more expensive, I'd for sure hire it done...my 2¢ worth.

For 2000$ in shipping.. Hmm.. i think I'd try to find a tractor.. close/local.. that was up to 2000$ more.. and perhaps in better condition.. that way more of the money went to hp.. vs gas.

Alternately.. if you have no trailer.. and will ever need to be moving the tractor.. it may pay to dump 1200-1800 down on a trailer and just 'have' it, and haul yourself.. assuming the time was not an issue.. etc.

If time is an issue.. then hireing it is about your only choice.

I usually like to haul my own.. but have hired hauling twice, and had great results.
