It is interesting to read of the value of oak gum and other trees. We had a tornado in 2001 and took down several black walnut trees cut them up in 8' and 12' lengths and had a man with wood mizer band saw and cut in1"X 8" and 1" 12" boards and stacked in shed out of the weather. Also had the oak pecan and pine cut and stacked in shed. Have tried to sell for the past 10 years and cannot get wood workers to even come and look at the material.
Then again in 2008 another tornado took 30 acres of pine and oak trees. Could not sell the pine to twisted for the mill to accept.
The oak offered to come and cut free for fire wood only one taker and one load. so hired a dozer to make wind row and burned .

Today have a nice grazing land for cattle. but still trees dying from storm damage and have hauled to side of road and offered as free will help load no takers.
so now just burn to get rid of them.

I know could cut up split and offer to take to some place and stack neatly for free but have declined.

Did hear of a handicap person needing metal roofing material for chicken house rebuild.
Had a building spread over 5 acres field. loaded the base floor on trailer and walls stacked on top then the roof less metal covering and added enough metal roofing I had collected to the stack tied down and used tractor to drive 6 miles to his address. unloaded and helped him level floor then the walls where to be put up re-nailed to base he said his son would be able to do the rest.
Only good received out of the mess the tornado did.
When I drive by his place his chickens are looking healthy.
So decided if free not worth accepting and if charge the price is to high.

Our local mailing list had an post selling hardwood from a tree that fell. The tree was cut into 16 inch rounds and the owner was selling a load for $60-80 depending on the size of YOUR truck or trailer!:laughing::laughing: Split hardwood seems to be about $200 a cord so this guy is selling unsplit hardwood for about the same price. :confused2::laughing::laughing::laughing: I wonder if he will find a sucker, errr, I mean a buyer.

Later,
Dan
