Maybe this is a FAQ but I'm new here. We plant 150 acres of corn using dry fertilizer in 80 lb. bags. We are currently planning to upgrade our planter. My question is: is liquid or dry fert better? Which is most effective? Which has the most bang for your buck? Either way we choose, we are planning to rig up a bulk system to save our backs.

anticipating you input

There are plusses and minuses to both. The major difference is that liquid fertilizer doesn't offer potash. That will have to come dry, granular.

I perfer liquid!
The costs might be just a tad higher but depending on the system used it can go alot further between fill ups.

IT can be used in the rain and the systems seem to work better over more years. Which is good for no-till planting.

Get a liquid setup. It is cheaper to buy the fert as well as set up the planter.

I use both depending on the weather at the time. I like the liquid but my neighbors hate the smell.

Ha Ha lol....I defenitly prefer the dry farts...thanks for your input so far

seen in a job johnney:

Here I sit all broken hearted,
Tried to crap but only farted.
Then one day I took a chance,
Tried to fart and crapped my pants.

Aggrand (Amsoil) has a good line of liquid ferts you might what to check out. I use it on my lawn & garden, works very good. If you decide to order some use this referal # 1065689.

In - laws farm , they spread dry . Instead of having to side dress or chisel in anhydrous ammonia (for nitrogen ) they use liquid 32% . They have a 2000 gallon tank on a trailer that pulls between the tractor and planter . The planter has a ground driven pump mounted on it . This delivers the solution to individual knives . This works in conventional or no-till , and eliminates a trip across the field . Has worked very well for their operation for years . Just something to inquire about with your local farm advisor , probably not feazible for 150 acres .
