All right guys, need some ideas. I just recently received the Farm Show CD, in it I saw a mower that was reversed and the deck mounted out front, then I saw were a dual mower-conditioner set up with one pulled and one pushed. This got me to thinking, why not take a lawn tractor, turn the rear end around, mount a deck out front and pull another one behind? This would double the mowing width on a fairly good size yard, saving me a couple of hours, plus it would just be cool looking. So what do you think? Anyone care to give some feedback?

Thanks
Greg

Hi Gregg,
It sounds like a Great idea and would be fun to build. It would take quite a bit of time, that is the main reason that I went and bought 2-63" finish offset mowers to pull behind my 60" front mount mower. Both of the pull mowers are elctric start, so it is a snap getting them started. With the extra big gas tank on each one I can sit in my air conditioned Curtis cab and cut 15' 6" with each pass. It sure does help cut down on mowing my 8.5 Acres Ky Bluegrass. I will attempt to have a link to the mowers I bought. http://www.drpower.com/prdSell.aspx?Name=TowBehindLawnMower&src=IP00005
Thanks for listening,

I was thinking the same thing today, while my clutch was acting up on my garden tractor, I have a 52" mtd deck that I was thinking about powering with two BS motors 6.75hp and 4 hp which I have. Towing it off set to left side. Thats about as far as I got on it /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I would need to go with a set of gauge wheels and figure what belt sizes and how to add clutches to the two motors for safety.

Mith was posting on this type of set up too. Moving the deck to the front well I think it was converting to rear steering, not sure though.

Hey, thats my idea!!
See my post in this forum for a pic of what i thought...

I had a thought during the night (ive just got up) An idea what i didnt include in my post is to have another mower deck fastened to the side of the tractor in the middle.
The engine for that deck is on the other side to the deck, thae belt goes under the chassis to the side deck
that way there would be the front deck powered by the tractors engine and a side deck powered by a seperate engine

The front deck rear discharge and the side one side discharge.

Notamustang, you got the idea!

They have powered "tow behind" mower decks for $600-800 bucks. I think they are 38-42". You could buy several for the price of a rear finish mower and make a gang 10 feet wide for your tractor. Or, pull 2 behind your large commercial riding mower. This would probably out-mow any CUT!

I already do that. I have a 50" deck on a Sears Lawn tractor and I pull a 60" trailmower offset to give me a 9' cut.

No pictures and no need for a design. All factory stuff. But I can take a picture and post it next week when I cut the grass.

I have a GT5000 Sears lawn tractor w/22hp engine and 50" deck. The other mower is a standard Swisher T-60 trail mower. It was designed to be pulled behind an ATV or a Lawn Tractor and can be set to pull straight behind or offset to one side or the other. I set it to the left since both the Sears mower and the Swisher discharge to the right.

It can be pulled behind a tractor. In fact, that was my original intention when I bought the Swisher. I was going to pull it with my Yanmar 1500 and eliminate the problems associated with pulling a PTO driven finish mower with a non-live PTO tractor.

I got the idea to pull it off set behind a lawn tractor when I was standing in a Sears store looking a mowers on sale one day. I realized that I could cut a 9' swath instead of just a 5' swath.

They are light weight so My guess is that my little 1500 could probably pull 3 of them set in a V formation behind the tractor to cut a 15' swath if I wanted to.
